Child Care Chalkboard

December 1-31

Theme of the Month: Advent

Items for Winter

It's time to start bringing winter clothing. Please make sure your child has gloves, hat and a winter jacket. Snow pants and boots are a must once the snow starts to fly, but some children also like them for warmth before the snow.

We do take the children outside at least once a day. Our outdoor policy reads:

We try to go outside every day. We are not staffed to keep children inside when everyone else is outside. Please make sure your child has the proper clothing to go outside every day. Our policy in the winter is as follows: 15 degrees and below – Don’t go out

16 – 25 degrees – 30 minutes max. 26 degrees and above – Staff discretion

Parent/Teacher Conferences

We will be offering Parent/Teacher Conferences for all children that attend 3 or more days each week. The conferences will be Monday, December 3rd and Tuesday, December 11th . Please make sure you have signed up or spoken with your child's teacher.

Health Alert

The county has contacted us regarding an outbreak of pertussis (whooping cough) in the valley. We are at HAN Alert which conveys the highest level of importance. They are advising that if your child shows the symptoms of whooping cough you take them to a doctor immediately. The symptoms include runny nose, low grade fever, mild to severe cough lasting more than 1 week.

This can include children's clothing, shoes & snow gear for infants-age 8. Donations will be accepted the whole month of December. At the end of the month they will be picked up and sorted for the Winter Warm-up event.

Kids Say the Darndest Things

A three year old child was talking on a play phone when one teacher started talking to another teacher. He looked up and said in a very annoyed voice, "I'm on the phone here!"

Immunization Update

When your child receives new immunizations, please bring those records in to the office. We must keep immunizations up to date on all children. Our records are checked yearly to make sure all children are current. Thank you for your help in this matter.

Cold & Flu Season--Sick Policy

Menus

Family Style Meals

In our center we incorporate family style Meals. Family-style meals teach the children skills that are important for growth and development. Here are just a few example, table manners, taking turns, sharing, communication, teamwork, math, and hand I coordination.

We encourage you as parents to also incorporate it into your family.

~Tips to use at home~

*Keep it simple(start small).

*Have serving bowls and utensils that are appropriate for your child to use.

* Be ready for accidents and have your child help clean them up without discouragement.

*Let your child help sent the table, even if it's just putting out napkins or cups.

* Have a variety of foods that are healthy and kid friendly, ask your child to help plan meals.

*Incorporate new foods and encourage your child to try them.

When having a family-style meals, encourages the child to try new things at first they may take more than what they need, but after a while they will cut back and only take what they want.
