Happy Holidays Hillcrest Herons!

It is so hard to believe we are already one-third of the way through the school year and only two weeks away from winter break. When you have the daily joy of supporting Hillcrest students and staff the time just flies by!

While many of our students and their families are looking forward to the holidays, we know for some this time of year can bring a bit of stress or anxiety. If your family has any needs, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. Hillcrest is a caring community and we will do everything we can to provide direct help or direct you to resources within the greater local community.

As always thank you for supporting your child, our staff, and our school.

Respectfully,

Paula Seaman

Hillcrest Principal

Our 2nd Grade Musical Is Going to Be "Snow" Much Fun!

Our 2nd graders will perform the fun-filled musical On With the Snow on Wednesday, Dec.14, 2022, at 6:30 PM. These talented kids, under the direction of Mr. Schlegel, have been hard at work during rehearsals for what is sure to be a highlight of the winter season!

HILLCREST HOLIDAY DRIVE FOR WAIF

Our November Fill the Bus Food Drive collected nearly 2,000 food items for the North Whidbey Help House and families in need in our community. During December, we want to take care of our four-legged friends! The Hillcrest Holiday Drive for WAIF is happening now and ends on Dec. 16.

Whidbey Animals’ Improvement Foundation (WAIF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing food, shelter, veterinary care, and nurturing to displaced pets until loving homes can be found for them.

Please consider donating any of the following items to once again show how Herons care for our community.

  • Cat and dog toys
  • Towels and blankets
  • Kongs
  • Pupperonis dog treats
  • Iam's kitten food
  • Nutro Max puppy food
  • Canned dog food (Pedigree/Alpo)
  • Canned cat food (Friskies)
  • Kitty litter

🍗🥗HOLIDAY FOOD BASKETS AVAILABLE

The North Whidbey Help House will distribute food baskets for the Christmas holiday to families in need. Holiday baskets include a full-size turkey and all the trimmings needed to prepare a memorable holiday meal! If you would like a basket for Christmas, please email Emily Southwick, school counselor, with your child's first and last name and the number of people in your household. Please submit requests no later than Dec.11, 2022.

Mrs. Southwick can be reached by email at esouthwick@ohsd.net or by phone at 360.279.5247

On February 14, 2023, Oak Harbor voters will consider approving a school bond measure for Oak Harbor Public Schools that would replace three aging school buildings, enhance safety at all school buildings, and address critical needs in the Oak Harbor community.

What questions are you hearing in the community that we can help answer? Submit your questions via this google form or email us at briefs@ohsd.net

We will be hosting several community meetings to share information and answer questions about the bond measure. See the graphic below for dates and locations.

Critters Visit Hillcrest

Wildlife Biologist (and Hillcrest parent) Amiee Welden presented a variety of amazing animals to our third graders as part of their studies of animal classifications, ecosystems, and habitats. A hedgehog, frogs, snake, and other critters brought out the amazement and wonder of these curious kids!
