Biography
Archimedes is from Syracuse, Greece. He lived from 287 B.C-212 B.C. Archimedes is most well known as "the great geometer.

Contributions/Impacts
Archimedes invented war machines to defend Syracuse from the Romans. He invented a variety of machines including pulleys and the Archimedes screw. Archimedes is credited with many inventions in the mathematics field such as calculus. He discovered how to find the volume of a sphere and determined the exact value of Pi. Archimedes screw is still used today in many parts of the world to pump water out of the ground. Archimedes found the volume of King Hiero II gold crown by displacing it in water to see if the crown is made up of pure gold.
