Have you ordered your student’s 2017-18 yearbook yet? Advance sales will end on Friday, May 11, 2018. Yearbooks can be purchased in the front office for $40 by dropping off a check or cash. Quantities are limited, so guarantee your yearbook today!
Students can verify if they have ordered a yearbook by checking the lists posted by the restrooms in their team area hallway. Yearbooks will be distributed during the last week of school. Email questions to Jaime Christensen at jaime.christensen@ops.org
District MAP Testing
It is extremely important that your child arrives to school each day with a fully charged laptop. This practice is always the expectation; however, it is doubly important for the testing time periods.
Currently, we are averaging 3-5 students per class who arrive to school on a daily basis with a completely dead laptop in their first block class. With good charging practices at home, a student shouldn't need to rely on classroom teachers to facilitate charging their devices until later in the day. We really appreciate any efforts that can be made at home to ensure your child has a fully charged laptop on a daily basis.
Summer School
Summer school for 5th-7th grade will be held from 7:30-11:30, June 4th - 29th. If you have any questions please contact the Summer School Principal, Mr. Grant Torpin.

Student Device Advice
For your advanced planning, students will turn their device in for the summer. We will start collecting devices on May 15-16 for 5th grade (NEW DATE), May 17-18 for 6th grade students and May 21-22 for 7-8th grade students. All students will go through the turn-in process even if they forget their laptop, charger, and/or bag at home on their assigned date. Fines will be assessed until all items are returned.
Families will be responsible for keeping the charger and bag at home and bringing it back at the beginning of the school year. Any student not returning, will return their laptop, bag, and charger. Fines for any of these items that are missing are as follows:
- Laptop-$241.00
- Bag-$17.50
- Charger-$39.00 (NOTICE LOWER PRICE)
- Broken/Missing Case $18.00
If you are currently aware of a missing charger, bag or laptop, please reach out to Kristina Tolliver (kristina.tolliver@ops.org) and try to take care of the issue before the end of the school year.
Five Easy Tips for Summer Learning
Read Every Day
At the middle school level, reading four to five books over the summer has a positive impact on fall reading achievement.
Math Every Day
The largest summer learning losses for all children occur in mathematical computation, an average of 2.6 months. Working math problems into summer activities can help students stay sharp over the summer months.
Get Outside and Play
Intense physical activity programs have a positive effect on academic achievement, including increased concentration; improved mathematics, reading, and writing test scores; and reduced disruptive behavior.
Write Every Week
Ask your child to write a weekly letter to his or her grandparents, relatives, or friends. Encourage them to keep a summer journal!
Do a Good Deed
Students learn better and "act out" less when they engage in activities to aid in their social-emotional development, such as community service. Encourage your child to help neighbors or friends or volunteer at a local organization.
