Wonders
READ! READ! READ! Please have your child read at home as much as possible. Even 20 minutes per night will make a big difference in increasing their fluency and comprehension. Thank you for your support!
In Wonders, we are working on Nouns - common and proper. Ask you child to give you examples of each or ask them if a noun is common or proper. For example, is "state" common or proper. Common. Is "Wisconsin" common or proper? Proper.
We took our Unit 2, Week 1 test. I have set the assessment so that it can be taken twice. If you'd like your child to retake the test at home, they absolutely may do so. However, it must be completed or their score will be a zero. I did not realize that their first score would be wiped out if they restarted the test. Some students do not have scores for Unit 1 and that is totally my fault. However, in the future if they do not have a score, they will have to retake it at school. Please let me know if you have questions. Thanks!
Envisions Math
This week, we started Topic 3. There are lessons on different strategies to add and subtract. There are three important things about this Topic that I want the children to understand:
- Always rewrite the addition or subtraction problem so it is vertical.
- Always start adding or subtracting at the ones place.
- Strategies, such as mental math, are just that - strategies. There are many different strategies and students can pick and choose if they'd like to use them. The most important thing is that they can line the numbers up and add and subtract in the traditional way.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Don't forget to keep practicing multiplication facts! We are making the fact flashcards at school. Students should have a complete set up to the 4's. The kids also began climbing their multiplication mountains! I will buy them lunch from McDonald's or Dairy Queen when they "climb" all 12 mountains. They must be able to go through all of the fact flashcards with me - fluently! This is a high goal, but I know they can do it!
