Closing out the Fall Semester
Titans,
This newsletter is all about closing out the Fall Semester next week! Please see below for important information.
The staff and I wish you and your family the best during the Winter Break. The first semester was great and I know that the second semester will be a great one too! Our holiday break is December 18, 2023 - January 3, 2024 for students. It is extremely IMPORTANT that students attend school EVERY day through December 15, 2023. Attendance is still mandatory and required. Please contact us with any questions.
We look forward to your child’s safe return to school when the second semester begins on Thursday, January 4, at 8:55 AM!
Sincerely,
Dr. Latoya Garrett

December Calendar
A Little Note about the upcoming Pajama Day...
Pajama Day is Wednesday, December 13th! Please note that Pajama Day is not a deviation from the district's dress code as the dress code allows for special days like pajama days. The dress code is still in full effect and pjs must be school appropriate. All pajamas should cover midriff, be appropriate for school, cover undergarments, and follow all SLMS regulations.
Semester Exam Information
Students taking courses at SLMS for high school credit or who are enrolled in a single-semester course will have a cumulative semester exam administered. For high school credit courses, this grade (called SE1 in Skyward) will count for 15% of your child’s overall semester average, and for middle school single-semester courses, their assessment grade will be a fourth major grade for T2 (Term 2). Students who miss these assessments must make them up by January 19th. A “0” (zero) will be placed in the gradebook as a placeholder until these assessments are made up. Please note that for students who are taking exams this semester, no exams may be taken early.
Toys for Tots
Students will eat lunch during 4th period on Tuesday, December 12th and during 3rd period on Wednesday, December 13th. They will eat the lunch according to the lunch that teacher usually takes so a few students may have a different lunch. The teachers will inform students during class if there is a lunch (A, B, C lunch) change.
Early Release Day Expectations
Our early release days are Thursday, December 14, and Friday, December 15. The school hours for the early release days are 8:55AM -1:25 PM. Students will have two options for lunch—bring lunch from home or order a sack lunch from the cafeteria. Students will eat their lunch in their classrooms. Lunches will not be delivered to classes.
Students are reminded to stay off other FBISD property, such as elementary schools and even school playgrounds, after we dismiss. Our staff will be engaged with tasks related to the end of the semester and preparing for checkout responsibilities after school on these early release days so former student visits are not allowed on early release days.
If you are picking up a student early on the Early Release Days, you must do so by 12:45 PM
What Do I Bring to School on the Early Release Days (Thu/Fri)?
No backpacks or string bags will be allowed at school on early release days. Students may bring a pencil bag, a book to read, notebooks as needed, and a lunch from home (if not ordering a sack lunch from the cafeteria). Girls may bring a small purse, if needed. Musical instruments may be brought if your child’s teacher instructs them to bring them to school on the early release days.
Final Week Dress Code
Dress code will still be in effect on early release days and on all exam days. No blankets, pillows, pajamas (except for designated pj day), slippers, hats, etc., will be permitted on these days, just as they are not permitted on regular school days.
Are You Moving During the Break?
If you are planning to move during the break and your child will no longer attend Sugar Land MS for the next semester, please come by the school to fill out an Intent to Withdraw form. This form needs to be processed before the semester ends. The last day to come in and fill out the form will be Wednesday, December 13. Contact Mrs. Phillips at (281) 634-3118 if you have questions. Thank you in advance for your help, and we wish you the best!
