What will we be studying this month?
Social Studies
The student will explain how the contributions of ancient Greece and Rome have influenced the present world in terms of architecture, government (direct and representative democracy), and sports.
3.2 Ancient Mali
The student will study the early West African empire of Mali by describing its oral tradition (storytelling), government (kings), and economic development (trade).
Math
The student will recall multiplication facts through the twelves table, and the corresponding division facts
3.3 Fractions
The student will:
- a)name and write fractions (including mixed numbers) represented by a model
- b)model fractions (including mixed numbers) and write the fractions’ names;
- c)compare fractions having like and unlike denominators, using words and symbols
(>, <, or =).
Reading
SOL 3.4b – Use knowledge of root words and prefixes
SOL 3.6e – Draw conclusions and make simple inferences using textual information as support
SOL 2.9f;3.6d – Ask and answer questions about what is read
SOL 4.6g – Identify Cause and Effect
Writing
SOL 3.10h – Use apostrophes in contractions with pronouns and in possessives.

1st Quarter Benchmarks
November 5 & 6
The benchmark tests will only be on information covered during the first marking period. It is on the computer in an SOL format to get the students more familiar with this before the SOL.
