A Note from the Principal's Office
February 3, 2019
Dear PES Families,
Well, Old Man Winter certainly paid us a visit last week. I know that while Snow Days are often welcomed by the children, they can pose challenging childcare situations for families. Thank you to everyone for understanding the need to close school last week to keep students safely out of the elements. From listening to the children it sounds as if everyone made the most of the time together. I heard stories of baking together, doing science experiments together, reading together, and snuggling up for a movie together. I hope that in the cold, you all found the warmth of family to sustain you.
- Preschool Registration opened last Friday. Thank you to everyone who has already signed up. Registration is based on a first-come basis until all sections are full. If you have not yet signed up, please do so soon. Registration paperwork is available via the link below or in the school office. For questions, please contact Terry at tmaly@d107.org
- MAP/CogAT Reports will be mailed on Wednesday, February 6th. Due to the school closings last week, these reports were delayed. If you have questions after reviewing your child's report(s), please contact me or your child's teacher.
- 5 Essentials Survey is Open! On December 17, you received an invitation from our superintendent, Dr. Dave Palzet, to complete the 5 Essentials Parent Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child's school from the perspective of parents, teachers, and students. In order to receive the most detailed reports from the survey data, we need parent participation. Personally, I have taken the survey for my kids' schools and it took me about 10 minutes. Please help us garner additional feedback by completing the survey at https://survey.5essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent/login/ We currently have 20% response rate and would love to have more families respond. Your feedback helps us know what we are doing well and where we can continue to make improvements. Thank you for taking the survey. It's just one more way we can partner together to make our schools even better!
- Kindergarten Registration will open on March 1st. Please share this date with neighbors who may not have children already enrolled in D107 schools. Early registration by families helps us to plan appropriately for staffing. All forms will be on the www.d107.org soon. Families new to D107, may begin the process of verifying residency by contacting the District Office at esawosko@d107.org
- Souper Bowl- Thank you to those families who donated soup to PES' first ever SouperBowl collection. All donated items will be shared with a local food pantry. Thank you to Student Council for you work promoting this activity.
- Snow gear is required for students to play in the snow. This includes snow pants and boots, along with a coat, hat, and mittens. Students without boots and snow pants will be limited to areas of the blacktop and playground without snow. If you need assistance getting snow pants and/or snow boots for your child(ren) please contact me, or Mrs. Dassinger, Social Worker, for assistance. We will be happy to help you.
- Labels help identify a child's belongings when they end up in Lost and Found. Please make sure to label snow gear, shoes, hoodies, etc. We have a growing collection of water bottles, hats, gloves, hoodies, and much more. Please remind your child to check lost and found for their things.
For our students,
Ms. Tomei
