Irish Dance

History
Irish dancing has been around for centuries, but has evolved over time. it is likely that the Druids and their Pagan beliefs had a strong influence on the roots of this dance. After the 18th century the Dance Master appeared. The Dance Master was a character/teacher who travelled around Ireland teaching Irish dance.
Today there are three main forms of Irish dance: social dance, set dance and step dance.
Social dance is an informal style that is seen at various special events. Set dance is more structured and formal. Is usually performed in sets of four couples and on flat feet. step dance is a more modern style of Irish dance, that unlike set dance uses the balls of the feet.
some examples of step dancing are Riverdance and Lord of the Dance.
