Student Council's "Pennies for Pasta" fundraiser starts this week. Student Council is asking all students to bring in loose change (or dollars) to donate to this worthy cause. Their goal is to raise $700 as a school. If the goal is met, the class with the largest total donation will win a "pasta party." Student Council suggests that kids look under couch cushions, on the floor of your car, and any other place they think they might find forgotten coins.
The Farmer's Market is coming to LCM! This Friday, LCM students will have an opportunity to learn from a local farmer about different fruits and vegetables, how they are grown, the benefits of healthy eating, and even have an opportunity to "shop" for produce. Students do not need money for this fun event.
Wish List: Room 26 needs baby wipes! If you find yourself at Costco, Target, or Walmart and wouldn't mind donating a package or two of baby wipes, we'd really appreciate it! They come in SO handy in a classroom without a sink!
Language Arts
We are finishing our novel study of Tuck Everlasting this week. It has been a wonderful book to read and discuss. Students have been comparing/contrasting characters' points-of-view, making predictions, formulating opinions and supporting them with evidence from the text, identifying figurative language, and even beginning to discuss symbolism within the story. We have also been "sentence stalking," or using particular sentences in the book as "mentor sentences" to help us recognize the author's writing techniques and begin to incorporate those techniques in our own writing.
We will transition from fiction to non-fiction as we finish our week reading about our current science unit (cells and body/plant structures.)
