In School this Week...

Word Wall

The Word Wall is a great writing tool in our classroom. I do not expect the students to memorize each word wall word, but they do need to be aware that the words are on the wall, so they can use them as a reference when writing in the classroom.

This week's word wall words are: around, quick, knew, should, find.

For the remainder of the year, our weekly word wall words will be included on our Friday spelling tests. The words will always be available on the wall; the children will need to locate them and spell them correctly. Please practice these words at home with your child.

Spelling

A list of spelling words will come home each Monday in your child’s homework folder. There will be 6 new spelling words each week and 2 challenge words. The spelling words are chosen based on our Word Sort for the week.

This week’s spelling words are: with, fish, still, but, must, such.

The challenge words are: jump, miss.

Please practice these words at home with your child. There will be a spelling test on Friday!!

Shared Reading

In reading this week, we are reading the story Animals and Their Babies. While reading this week we will learn the names of baby animal, and will discuss reading with a purpose. In this story, we will read to find out more infomation about how adult animals care for baby animals. We will also practice reading fluently by chunking words into phrases as we read.

Everyday Math

In math this week, we will practice counting by 10s and 1s on a number grid. We will identify patterns on the number grid when adding and subtracting by 10s. Later this week, we will practice figuring out missing numbers on the number grid.

Science

This week we will explore our April issue of our National Geographic Young Explorer magazine. We will learn about the differences between adult animals and baby animals, identify parts of plants, and learn about animals under the sea.

In the Computer Lab...
