Dear Parents, Guardians and Community Members,
Members of our Leadership Awareness Workshop (LAW) group attended the Elementary Student Leadership Conference on Tuesday, January 12th at Naugatuck Community College in Waterbury, CT and were joined by student council representatives from both Goshen and Warren. The conference provided our students with the opportunity to develop skills associated with effective leadership. They participated in hands-on activities designed to foster leadership skills in productive thinking, decision-making, communication and creative problem solving. When asked for a quote to summarize their learning, the JMS participants responded with
- "Don't follow; choose to lead." - Anna, 5th grade
- "It's not what you think in life; it's what you do." - A.J., 5th grade
- "Treat others the way you would like to be treated." - Anthony, 5th grade
- "Be nice; be kind; be helpful." - Brady, 6th grade
- "If you don't like the world, change it." - James, 5th grade
- "Don't ride your fate; steer it!" - Jamie, 5th grade
- "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee; be the change in the world you would like to see." - Sierra, 5th grade
- "Think before you act." - William, 4th grade
JMS to Host All RSD6 K-6 Students
Friday morning, James Morris School will host all K-6 students and staff from both Goshen Center School and Warren School for a cultural awareness assembly and grade-level activities. Artists from New Haven specializing in African dance and drumming will perform at JMS in an interactive assembly attended by all. Following, students and staff will break into groups by grade level, allowing the children from each of the three schools to meet, interact, and have lunch their peers from across the district. We look forward to this collaborative effort leading to additional interactions between the schools, both though visits and technology. On behalf of the three principal, I thank each of the school's PTOs for sponsoring the assembly.
