PANTHER PRIDE
DECEMBER NEWSLETTER
Message From Mr. Fay
Dear Peine Ridge Community,
The school year seems to be flying by! We are back from Thanksgiving break, and Winter break is right around the corner. I’d like to start a tradition for myself to write a letter this time of year to express my gratitude for the many blessings in my life and express my thanks for having what I believe is the best job in the world.
First, I would like to thank the students. Each year we asked our students to work hard, do their best, challenge themselves, and display Panther Pride on a daily basis. Looking at grades, attendance rates, and student behavior, I can say with confidence our students are accomplishing these goals. We have amazing students and I am so proud of each one of them. I love celebrating with our students by reading with them or letting them cut my tie.
Likewise, I would like to thank our staff. I truly believe I get to work with the best staff who all believe each student is capable of learning and growing. We have dedicated teachers who continually look for instructional strategies to improve student achievement. Most importantly, our staff develops meaningful relationships with our students, and those relationships lead to the positive culture of Peine Ridge Elementary. We are a team, and I appreciate how hard our teachers work to ensure every student at Peine Ridge is successful.
I would also like to thank our parents and school community. The support and involvement that we have received from parents and the community is amazing. We raised nearly $15,000 in profit from our PTO fundraiser. This level of support helps our PTO support our teachers and students and make Peine Ridge an even more amazing school each year. What I am most impressed with is your dedication to excellence in educating our children. Thank you for your support at home and your involvement at school.
Finally, I would like to thank my family. As much as I enjoy my job, my favorite part of the day is seeing my wife, Jen, and my son, Lucas, at the end of the day. I would like to thank them for understanding the time that goes into making Peine Ridge one of the top elementary schools in the state and for being understanding with the amount of time I put into continuing my education towards my doctorate.
Thank you again for giving me the opportunity to serve our school and students. I would like to wish the entire school community a happy holiday season.
Sincerely,
Damian Fay
Peine Ridge Elementary PrincipalTEACHER OF THE YEAR!
Lara Hodnett has worked for Peine Ridge Elementary as the librarian for the past two school years. Her love of reading creates an excitement among our students. Lara’s goal is to extend her own learning and understanding with technology and to widen students’ experiences and understanding as well. With her technology goal, Lara pulls the students in to use iPads and green screens to create informational videos. Lara’s students love all of the interactions in the library with technology and the makerspace. As you can see, Lara goes out of her way to help make sure students are successful with their learning and growing.
Lara goes above and beyond to make sure she supports curriculum from the classroom in the library setting. Lara supports teachers with materials, lessons, and books. Lara also shares resources she has researched when she knows they will be beneficial to others. Lara is a key to the successes we have with students at Peine Ridge. Teachers in the building say Lara is a huge help with sharing exciting things available through the library to support each area of curriculum. Each week, our teachers meet to collaborate and Lara attends the sessions to listen in and to ask what each team needs.
Lara also put on a successful family reading night this year. She provided our parents an opportunity to spend an evening with their children listening to stories, sharing favorite books, and eating hotdogs and chips.
The best thing about Lara’s efforts is she does it in such a friendly way always wearing a smile upon her face.

Note From the Nurse
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are currently in the middle of cold and flu season. Please take a moment to speak with your child about the importance of hand washing and coughing or sneezing into the fold of their arm to help prevent the spread of germs.
It is understood that certain symptoms in children may suggest the presence of a communicable disease. Excluding an ill child may aid in decreasing the spread of the illness to others in the school setting as well as allow adequate time for the ill child to feel better.
With this being said, please remember that it is Wentzville School District’s Policy that students who are sent home for vomiting, fever, and/or diarrhea, may not return to school until they are free of all symptoms for a full 24 hours from the time they are sent home.
Thank you for your continued support in helping keep Peine Ridge a happy and HEALTHY environment for your children! J

WSD Scores 97.1% on Annual Performance Report /PRE 100%
The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) released the Annual Performance Report (APR) data for school districts around the state on November 7th. The Wentzville School District scored 97.1% in the evaluation system, up from 95.4% last year and the highest the District has scored since the state started using the evaluation tool four years ago. Peine Ridge Elementary scored 100%. The APR is part of the Missouri School Improvement Plan (MSIP 5), a rigorous evaluation tool for rating the performance of Missouri school districts.
The standard of MSIP 5 measures five areas: Academic Achievement, Subgroup Achievement, College and Career Readiness, Attendance, and Graduation Rate. MSIP 5 is used to distinguish the performance of schools and districts in valid, accurate and meaningful ways so that districts in need of improvement can receive appropriate support and interventions, and high‐performing districts can be recognized as models of excellence.
The District scored a perfect 100% in Academic Achievement, Graduation Rate and College and Career Readiness, but did not receive all possible points in the Subgroup Achievement and Attendance categories. “These results are further evidence that we have strategically implemented quality curricular programs, and we have a phenomenal staff working with our students to increase achievement,” said Superintendent Dr. Curtis Cain. “While this is wonderful news, it is also a reminder to our students and their parents about the importance of good attendance. Studies show that children with better attendance have higher achievement, which is why DESE emphasizes this important metric when evaluating school districts.”
Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) scores were released in September, and for the seventh consecutive year, the Wentzville School District has scored in the top 10% of all school districts in the state of Missouri. At the same time, the WSD’s Average Daily Attendance (ADA) spending remains the lowest in St. Charles County at $9,488 and below the state average, providing a high quality education at a low cost.
