Cell Analogy Project

The nucleus is the brain of the cell. The nucleus is like the manager at a restaurant because he is in charge of everything like the nucleus.

Cell Membrane

The cell membrane is what protects the cell. It is a double layer of phospholipids. It is under the cell wall. The cell membrane would be like the door of the restaurant because that is what protects it.

The Lysosome contains hydrolytic enzymes that are necessary for intracellular digestion. The Lysosome would be the people who clean up the mess people make because that is like the job of the lysosomes in a cell.

Ribosomes are packets of RNA and protein. They are the site of protein synthesis. The Ribosomes would be the oven in the kitchen because it makes protein like the oven makes food.

Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum

The Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (RER) is where the Ribosomes are located. It also is a packaging part of the cell. The RER of a restaurant would be the kitchen because the RER has ribosome which is like an oven so it would be the kitchen.

Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum

The Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum (SER) is a vast network of membrane bound vesicles and other secretory products. The SER would be the kitchen where they make deserts since it is smooth. :)

Golgi Apparatus

The Golgi is a membrane bound structure which has one membrane. The Golgi would be like what they carry your food out on at a restaurant.

The Mitochondria is the power house a cell needs to move, divide, and contract.

The Mitochondria would be like the gas and power the ovens and stoves run off of in a restaurant because they wouldn't work without it.

Chloroplasts contain chlorophyll that makes a plant green and helps it absorb energy from sunlight. The Chloroplasts would be like the windows at a restaurant because they absorb sunlight.

The Vacuole is a membrane bound sac that plays a role in intracellular digestion and the release of cellular waste products. The Vacuole would be like the storage part of a restaurant because it stores nutrients and waste products.

Cell Wall

The Cell Wall is what protects everything inside the cell and is made up of polysaccharides. The Cell wall would be like the building and walls of the restaurant because it is what protects it.
