Principal Update
Good Afternoon Super Star families!
Thank you for your help with our IAR testing, we only have a limited number of make-up tests remaining this week. We look forward to getting back to normal schedules and instruction. You might also notice that this week is Teacher Appreciation week, please take a moment to help celebrate our amazing faculty and staff. Home & School has provided great Teacher Appreciation activities in which our Super Star students and families can participate.
As we have many new students entering the building for testing, a reminder to all families to please ensure your child or anyone who has been in close contact with your child/family over the last 48 hours is healthy and without COVID-like symptoms. By being extra thoughtful and conservative when sending our Super Star students to school you can help ensure that our school community is able to continue the important academic and Social-Emotional Learning that we wish to make the focus of our remaining weeks in the 2020-21 school year. If you have any questions regarding symptom monitoring please reach out to Mr. Louis, Mr. Ubben, or our wonderful school nurse Ms. McCabe prior to sending your child to Steeple Run.
This week don't miss:
- Annual Update - Ensure you get this done in the month of May!
- Teacher Appreciation Week - Join us in celebrating our teachers!
- Jefferson/Kennedy Transition Information - Applicable to our 5th-grade families
- Read-a-thon - Great job Super Stars keep reading!

THIS FORM ONLY NEEDS TO BE FILLED OUT ONCE
Student Self-Certification Form
Once your student begins attending school in-person, D203 will be following IDPH and ISBE guidance and requiring each student to undergo a daily symptom screening prior to utilizing D203 transportation or entering any D203 building. Parents/guardians will be responsible for conducting daily symptom screening and temperature checks prior to their students departing home for any in-person instruction or any other D203 sponsored event. While a daily symptom check is required you only have to fill out our Student Self-Certification Form once electronically (see link below).
All Parents/Guardians are required to complete the Student Self-Certification Form prior to a student participating in in-person instruction. Students will not be allowed to participate in any in-person instruction until this form has been received.
As an additional precaution, temperature checks will be conducted each morning at student entrances. Temperatures will not be recorded daily. However, any student exhibiting a temperature at or above 100.4 will be required to be picked up from school and may not return until the Return to School criteria have been met and the student is fever free without medication for 24 hours.
Families are asked to monitor their students closely for any of the following COVID-19 symptoms:
Temperature of 100.4 (or greater) degrees Fahrenheit/38 degrees Celsius;
New Cough;
New onset of moderate to severe headache;
Shortness of breath;
Sore throat;
Diarrhea;
New loss of taste or smell;
Fatigue from an unknown cause;
Muscle and body aches;
Any other COVID-10 symptoms identified by the CDC or IDPH
Students experiencing any of the above symptoms should remain home and caregivers should report the symptoms in writing to the school nurse. We are required by IDPH to consider any student experiencing one or more the symptoms of COVID-19 as a possible case unless we receive an alternative diagnosis from a health care provider. Students must meet Return to School criteria in order to participate in in-person learning or any other D203 sponsored event.
In addition, we are asking that Parents/Guardians certify the following each day:
Has not experienced any of the above symptoms (without an alternative diagnosis) in the 10 previous days;
Has not had close contact with any individual that has tested positive or has a presumed case of COVID-19 within the last 14 days;
That no one in the household is currently being evaluated for COVID-19;
Has not tested positive COVID-19 in the last 10 days; and
Has not been asked to self-quarantine or self-isolate for any reasons associated with COVID-19.
Thank you for your ongoing understanding and support as we implement these recommendations provided by the IDPH and ISBE. Please reach out to Principal Louis or our school Nurse Francine McCabe (fmccabe@naperville203.org) with any questions.
Moving?
Absences
Absence Reporting
Please call the absence line 630-420-6387 for any reason a student won’t be in person or not participating online. If your child will be tardy, leaving the online zoom meeting early, going on vacation, attending doctor’s appointments, or are having Wi-Fi or tech issues, please call the absence line. While your teachers are always thankful to know about your child's absence remember to contact our health office as well!
Accommodating Changes to In-Person to Online Instruction
We have had some questions coming in regarding the ability to move from in-person to online learning and at times requests to move from online to in-person. For the sanity of our teachers and the successful operation of our building during our next phase of learning, we are asking that families remain within their selected mode of learning.
While there are extenuating circumstances we may consider if, for example, an in-person family needed to move online for a period of time during a period of quarantine or due to unforeseen issues related to health and wellness. Vacationing, waking-up late, or not feeling up to in-person learning for any reason outside COVID-related Health & Safety protocols would not be a reason to move to online learning and would be handled per usual as an absence. Similarly, there may be a valid reason we may consider moving an online family to in-person when possible within our health and safety guidelines.
If you have any questions please reach out to Mr. Ubben or Mr. Louis (aubben@naperville203.org & jlouis@naperville203.org)

It’s time for the 2021 Direct Donation Drive!
What is the Direct Donation Drive?
This program is an easy way for families to financially support innovation and excellence that will directly impact their student’s experience at Steeple Run Elementary School.
Why a Direct Donation Drive?
The Direct Donation Drive began in response to feedback Home & School received from our families. Rather than participating in multiple fundraisers each year (such as wrapping paper, coupon books, or other keepsakes), e families preferred to donate funds to Home & School directly. Also, 100% of your direct donation may be considered a charitable contribution, since no goods or services are being provided in exchange for your donation.**
What Programs Will My Donation Support?
The funds we raise through the Direct Donation Drive help pay for enriching programs and experiences that benefit every student at Steeple Run. This includes, but is not limited to school assemblies (like the Virtual Family Fun Night!), grade-level field trips, classroom parties, birthday books for every student…and more! This year would include the purchase of inclusive seating, all-weather storage & games and resurfacing the gaga pit.

Save the Date
We continue to evaluate the best date for our Fun Run which is now tentatively scheduled for June 9th to ensure we prioritize our continued success with in-person instruction. Adding additional variables, while something we all look forward to getting back to, may not be the best decision with current guidance and related impacts on our instruction. We will send out more information in the coming week, thanks for your patience as we continue to evaluate the best decisions for our school community in this unique season. Pre-registration will be required. Look for more details to come. Get training!
