News From Room 106
December 15, 2023
Families,
It was great to see so many of you at our music concert and Family Night! The students did an excellent job performing!
Woodview holiday parties will be on December 22, from 8:35-9:15. The students will then rotate through different holiday stations for the remaining part of the half day. We are asking for $3 donations to go towards our breakfast party. We will be having a pancake breakfast!
As a reminder, the students created Christmas gifts for their guardians at home. The students are trying to keep it as a surprise but the gifts will need to be picked up by someone at home if your students rides the bus after school as they are too big to take on the bus. The main portion of the gift is a 2x4 wood piece that measures their height!
If your student is normally a pick up at the end of the day, they will be able to carry them to the cars. We are asking that you stop into Woodview any time from now until next Friday morning (12/15-12/22) and pick up your gift. If you are unable to pick them up, please let me know and I will work with you to arrange a time.
Thank you,
Mrs. Arends

Inside the Classroom:
Math
We have begun our unit on area and perimeter. Students have been finding the area of different rectangles by tiling the inside of the shape (creating arrays) to help us then count the squares to determine the area. We will then be studying how to find the area of the rectangles by multiplying the side lengths.
Language Arts
Students have been working with different pieces of text relating to our solar system. Next week, they will begin researching a planet of their choice. They will gather information from short video clips, short reading passages, and informational texts.
For spelling, we have been working on r-controlled vowels. For grammar, we are working on subject-verb agreements.
Students are making great progress on their Marking Period 2 AR goals!
