Finding the Joy

Well parents, we have made it another week. I know that this year has been filled with many stresses and challenges. Whether you are a parent, teacher, or administrator, when you are charged with ensuring the well-being of others, it can be easy to get lost in the responsibility. I myself have been guilty of this more times than I would like to admit. However, something happened this week that I wanted to share with you all.

On Thursday, I went into PE to visit and see what they were up to. Coach D and Coach Lash were teaching the 1st graders how to play Fitness Tag, which is a great combination of tag and exercises. I decided to kick off my heels and jump in. Boy, am I glad I did! Even though I only lasted 10 minutes- your kids are fast!!- those were the best 10 minutes of my week. The looks on the kids' faces when they saw their principal desperately trying to avoid being tagged so I didn't have to do wall sits (for the 100th time!) reminded me that amid all the stress and difficulty of reality, there is always joy to be found.

So, as we begin our long weekend, I want to encourage you to find joy with your kiddos this weekend- even if it's only for 10 minutes! Although it may leave you exhausted and gasping for breath :), I promise it will also reenergize you.

REMINDER- Monday and Tuesday are student holidays!

Remote Conferencing Opportunity for Isolated or Quarantined Students

Lago Vista ISD students may be eligible to participate in remote conferencing for attendance purposes in the event they are unable to attend face-to-face instruction on campus. Students are eligible for remote conferencing if both of the following requirements are met:

  • The student is unable to attend school because of a temporary medical condition; AND

  • The total amount of remote conferencing does not exceed more than 20 instructional days over the entirety of the school year.

A student who is absent due to other reasons not listed above will not qualify to participate in remote conferencing and will be marked absent each day he/she is not physically present in school.

In addition to the two requirements above, one of the following requirements must also be met:

  • The student’s temporary medical condition is documented by a physician licensed to practice in the United States; OR

  • The student has a positive test result for a communicable condition (such as COVID-19); OR

  • The student has been identified as having been in close contact with COVID-19.

Students in remote conferencing instruction will continue to work on class assignments via Seesaw, Google Classroom, or Canvas, and receive synchronous (live) assistance from a designated Remote Conferencing teacher. To the extent possible, a dedicated certified teacher will be designated to provide remote conferencing throughout the duration of students’ time in this setting, but it will not be the students’ teacher of record. In addition to working on assignments, students will be required to attend daily attendance meetings that will count for the day’s attendance and keep your child within the 90% attendance rule while out temporarily.

You will be notified by ParentLink with specific remote conferencing instructions and Google Meet links if your child qualifies for this temporary opportunity. If your child receives a close contact notification from the school, there will be a link to a form to complete if you wish for your child to participate in remote conferencing.

COVID Questions Answered

Q: If I was asked to get my student tested and they were negative, what do I need to do?

A: Either bring in a hard copy of the negative results to Marcy in the front office, or email them to the school at Once the results are confirmed to have been received, your student is good to return to school!

Q: How will I know if my student has been exposed?

A: If your student is determined to be a close contact of a student who has tested positive for COVID, you will be personally notified. If your child is in the same grade level as a student who has tested positive, you will receive an email.

Q: Are masks required?

A: LVISD does not require students, parents, teachers, staff members or visitors to wear masks or face coverings while on district premises. However, the wearing of face masks is allowed and is highly encouraged.

Q: Can I choose for my child to do at-home/remote learning this year?

A: The state has not provided for a funded remote instruction option this school year. Students not at school will be under normal attendance requirements. Exceptions to this are students who are isolated because of a positive COVID result or who are quarantined due to being a COVID close contact.
