January News v2
January Happenings
Our students are feeling antsy, too, as inside recess has taken hold on a few occasions this week when temperatures have plummeted.
The month of January brings many events and things to be aware of. Please take a moment to check out the details below!
MLK Day
Each January, schools celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by bringing to life his words and his dreams. As a young person, Dr. King was an excellent student who studied hard. He loved learning. His love for learning made him a great teacher and minister. He taught the world by way of his example. He taught fairness, courage, and nonviolence. We honor his work by showing respect for one another and by working hard and being a voice in our community. On January 20, school is not in session in order for staff and students alike to participate in our local community events:
Local MLK Community Events
- Jan 19: Interfaith service; Gloria Dei Church; 4-5:30PM
- Jan 20: Community Breakfast; Holy Family Chuch; 7-9:00AM
- Jan 20: MLK March; Washington Community Center; 10-11:30AM
- Jan 20: MLK Rally; DECC; 12-1:30PM
Ski Club Reminder
Dear Ski Club participants,
Next Wednesday is our first session of ski club. There are some housekeeping items that we would like you to know about. If you have questions, please email Mrs. Krizaj - Erin.Krizaj@isd709.org
The bus will arrive back at Homecroft around 6:30 pm.
Please remind your kiddos that they need to be responsible and respectful to all of the adults who are chaperoning them.
We have learned from Spirit Mountain that they have only received about half of the rental agreements and permission forms. Please go online to register and fill out these forms. Below is the link that you need to go to for filling out these forms. Spirit Mountain will be sending us a list next Wednesday morning and if your child’s paperwork is not done they will not be allowed to go.
The link to register was shared once we received your forms.

New Engineer
We would like to thank Mr. Kraig Lubansky for his years of service to Homecroft and wish him well on his retirement from the Engineer position.
If you see Mark, don't hesitate to say "hello".
Upcoming Lockdown
School safety is a top priority, and we want to get it right. Part of ALICE requires that as much information as possible is given when Alerting and Informing, including announcing when it is a drill and not an immediate threat. Before drills are conducted with students, we will work with classes to help them understand what we are doing. It will be explained that teachers have options, and any decision made will be based on the situation and the best information available.
Families may want to take this opportunity to visit with children in their care regarding personal safety and security. Younger students may need frequent reminders of safe practices in order for them to make good decisions related to their personal safety.
