A Note from the Principal
It was so wonderful to have so many of you join us for Parent Open House last week! As I mentioned in Church, that evening was one of the first opportunities for us to build a positive relationship between home and school. Thank you for seeing the value in that evening.
I encourage you to read the letter regarding MAP testing that can be found here and in communication folders today. To prepare your child, be sure he/she gets enough sleep each night and eats a healthy breakfast each morning. I would encourage him/her to bring along a healthy snack to eat and water to drink during the day. All of these things will help your children as they prepare to take the tests each day. The MAP testing window is from Monday, September 13 to Friday, October 1.
With the onset of a few COVID cases this week, I wanted to share some reminders:
- Since we are masking, we will have to quarantine far fewer students; however, since masks are not being worn during lunch, close contacts will be identified and need to quarantine. Students have assigned seats in the cafeteria. If your child is identified as a close contact, you will be notified by the school nurse or an administrator.
- Please remember that if someone in your household is being tested for COVID-19, any siblings should remain at home until the results are given. If the child tests negative, the sibling may return to school. If the child tests positive, then the sibling is considered a close contact and should follow the quarantine guidelines.
- If your child is showing any symptoms of COVID-19, please keep them at home. We have had students last year and this year who tested positive with the only symptom being a runny nose or a sore throat.
Finally, our annual Magazine Sale kicked off last week and runs through September 16th. The profits from the Magazine Sale go into our school budget and will help to defray the additional costs of keeping our school clean and our students safe during the pandemic. PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE ARE NO PAPER ORDERS THIS YEAR. Thanks for your support!
Grace and peace,
Ms. Diane Raguz, Principal
Welcome, New Staff Members!
Mr. Frank Adams
Mrs. Kris Platko
Mrs. Beth Petsche
Arrival Reminders
- Students arriving by car are not permitted in the building until 7:40 a.m.
- Please pull up further beyond the overhang so that more cars can empty at once.
- Make sure your child is ready to leave your car before you stop. If you need to take some additional time with him or her, park in the parking lot and walk your child over to the school. No child is permitted to walk across the parking lot on his/her own, and parents must accompany them as they cross the car line to the overhang.
- If your child needs assistance getting out of the car, please park and walk them in so as to not hold up the line.
- Remember when children are exiting your car, all should exit on the passenger side for safety reasons.
- As you leave, PLEASE PROCEED TO BLUE RIBBON WAY (exiting on Wilson Mills) ONLY.
- Buses have the right of way. Please allow them down the driveway before your car. Often bus drivers will allow cars to go first, but never count on it!
- Give your child enough time to walk to his/her homeroom. As the weather changes, the car rider line becomes longer and time gets later. Develop the habit of getting here with many minutes to spare!
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as the safety of all of our students is our foremost concern.
Uniform Reminder
Frequently Asked Questions
When will students begin wearing their regular school uniform?
Students will begin to wear their regular school uniform on Monday, September 13. We are aware that Schoolbelles has many items on backorder, and we are understanding of the situation. If this applies to your child, please inform your child’s teacher.
Are visitors allowed in the building?
Visitors will be limited but not prohibited at this time.
Can I drop off items that my child has forgotten?
The policy in our Parent-Student Handbook is that “Saint Paschal Baylon Catholic School teaches and promotes student responsibility. As a result, we ask parents not to bring forgotten items (lunch, homework, gym clothes, etc.) to school during the day. Lunch will be provided by the school, if needed.”
What is the mask policy for visitors to SPB?
All visitors, regardless of vaccination status, are required to wear a mask when entering Saint Paschal Baylon Catholic School.
Will I have to complete a Return to School form again this year if my child misses school due to COVID-related symptoms?
We will continue to require parents to have a doctor complete the Return to School Form in order to return to school. This form can be found on our website under Quick Links.
What are the guidelines for quarantine after exposure in the classroom?
We will follow the guidelines (flow chart) from the Ohio Department of Health to guide quarantine decisions. Please note that this flow chart applies only to COVID-19 exposures that occur in the classroom setting.
Will SPB offer simultaneous learning if my child must isolate or quarantine due to COVID-19?
At this time we will not be offering simultaneous learning. Teachers will provide work to students just as they would for a regular extended absence. Work can be picked up or taken home by a sibling. Older students will also be able to access Google Classroom just as they always have.
When will student mask policy be reevaluated?
We are regularly monitoring COVID data. We will reevaluate our mask policy by September 27.

Friday Playground Supervisor Needed
Playground Volunteers Needed-Grades 6-7-8
We are asking that each family (mom, dad, grandma, etc.) choose at least two days to volunteer each time slot being 11:15 am-12:50 pm. There are many, many time slots open! We are so grateful for the help!
This is a great way for you to interact with your child and his/her classmates during the school day! Recess Volunteers should arrive to school at 11:10 and check in at the office. Duties will include supervising students at recess, escorting the students to and from the school doors. Volunteers will be with one school staff member each day to help direct.
Remember that after your two volunteer time slots, you are done for the year, as each month is assigned to a different grade.
COVID-19 Volunteer Protocol: all recess volunteers are required to wear a mask when in the building.
Thank you again for your time and service to the students and teachers of SPB! Simply click on the following links to sign up: Grade 8, Grade 7, Grade 6
