Thankful for you!
November is flying by! We are looking forward to this week together before Thanksgiving break, just a reminder, students do not have school November 21-25th. We hope you all get to spend some quality time together and give thanks for the good things in life.
We will be starting a fundraiser this week and it will end on Monday, November 28th. Information will be shared with students on Monday so you all can get started. More information is provided below. Thank you in advance for helping raise money for our students and staff to have more access to resources!
Mr. Lemus, our music teacher has been hard at work this month. This past week he prepared our choir for the Shawnee Mission North Area Choir Festival, and they did SO GREAT! He also planned our first Veteran's Day Assembly and our 3rd and 4th grade students ROCKED IT! Thank you to all of our families and Veterans that attended! Mr. Lemus will be sending the Veteran's Day video that was shown during the performance out to families in the near future. His last November hoorah is our Kindergarten and 1st grade music performance, Fallin into Fall, that is this coming Thursday, November 17th at 5:30pm in the gym. We hope to see all of our Kindergarten and 1st grade families there!
Thankful to be a part of this great community!

Gum Free School
We have noticed a lot of mis-use of gum within the building. We have found gum on the floor, under tables and on desks. In order to keep our students safe from illness, we are going gum free. Please share this information with your child(ren). We will do the same at school.
Thank you for your support!

IMPORTANT
Keeping our Students Healthy
You may have recently heard news reports about increases of illness this fall, as is typical with this time of year. In SMSD, we have begun to see increases in absence due to illness with a few physician-diagnosed illnesses and many generalized symptoms.
One of the most important things to help decrease the spread of illness is for those who are not feeling well to stay home. If your child has a temperature of over 100.0 or has vomited or has had diarrhea, they must stay home. Students may return to school when they have been free from fever (without medication), vomiting, or diarrhea for 24 hours.
Your child may also be ill but without these symptoms. They may have a sore throat, headache, cough, or generally not feel well. If you suspect illness, please keep your child home. If in doubt about sending your child to school, contact the school nurse or your child’s doctor.

AMERICAN EDUCATION WEEK
American Education Week is November 13-19 and we’re asking the community to help us celebrate our educators!
As the students and parents in the classrooms and schools, you know better than anyone how awesome SMSD educators are. Please send us a video, pictures, or a story explaining why your educator is great. (Make sure you give us their name and position!) We want to share your stories across the community and thank our staff for everything they do. You can send these videos to us via email at ADCommun@SMSD.org or share with us any of our SMSD social media accounts. Thanks for helping us show how we are #OneShawneeMission!
PTA INFORMATION AND UPDATES
Fall Fundraiser
November 14th 2022
Dear Nieman Families:
Each year our school relies upon holding fundraisers to help pay for the many excellent educational opportunities we offer to the student body through Educational Enrichment, School Gift and an event in the Spring. We run two fundraisers a year; one in the Fall and one in the Spring.
The purpose of this letter is to inform you of our fundraising effort. This fall we are running our fundraiser through Fundraising University. There are two catalogs to purchase from. Families can sell to family and friends locally or online once they have registered their student(s), please see instructions included in the packet. Nieman PTA is only accepting Credit Cards through online or cash; NO CHECKS. If you are sending in cash, please be sure to have exact change as we will not be able to make change. ALL paper orders are due to the Nieman office by 9am on Monday November 28th. We will not be able to extend this date so please be sure to turn into the office by 9am. Order distribution will be December 19th after school, we will send more information at a later date.
Students have the opportunity to earn some pretty great prizes!
- 15 items will give them the opportunity to SLIME Mrs. Tenbrink!
- 20 items will give them the opportunity to get a limo ride!
Please contact Nieman PTA at NiemanPTA@gmail.com if you have any questions.
Our targeted goal is to reach $3,000.
We are looking forward to working with you and your student(s) during the fundraising campaign. Thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
Blair Murphy

Nieman families:

Thank you all for your support!
YEARBOOK DESIGNER NEEDED:
Nieman PTA is in search of a Yearbook Chairman. Our current chairman: Sommer Saunders is finishing out her last year as her youngest child is in 6th grade. Sommer would love to find someone to help her this year to take over starting the 23-24 school year. Without a Yearbook Chairman, there will be no yearbook for families and staff, so if you love to design, be creative and want to keep these school memories documented for families and staff this might be the perfect position for you! The Yearbook Chairman must also be a paid Nieman PTA member. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Sommer at PTAmom81@gmail.com
