Falcon Ridge Family Updates
October 25, 2021
News and Tidbits
I hope you had a wonderful week!
Today we welcome the Kuna Public Library to Falcon Ridge. We will be partnering with the librarians to bring a weekly pop-up library to our school. Elementary students will be given the opportunity to learn about the library, have story time, and check out a library book. We hope to incorporate our middle school students in the near future. Falcon Ridge is serving as the pilot for this opportunity for schools who do not have a library on campus.
Fall is in the air! Please remember to send warm clothing for the chilly mornings. Students will be enjoying the great outdoors during recesses and breaks.
This Friday is the PTO sponsored Trunk-or-Treat event. We are looking forward to this fun evening.
Ms. Covell's 5th grade students have been invited to join Starbase Idaho this year. This program will provide field trip opportunities for our students to engage in inquiry based, hands-on, minds-on STEM activities at Gowen Field. (See PDF Starbase calendar at bottom of flyer)
Speaking of STEM opportunities, the Falcon Ridge Charter STEM Club has started. Mr. Wallas and Miss Heckathorn are leading this after-school opportunity.
This year's theme is "How Full is Your Bucket." We are learning ways to be bucket fillers through words and actions that demonstrate kindness and compassion.
Our character trait for October is excellence, which means "a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements."
We will share a weekly update of the number of students/staff who are either in quarantine due to a possible exposure of Covid, or who have tested positive for Covid. Please see the graphic at the bottom of the newsletter.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jorgensen

Important Bus Information
As you know, there is a state-wide shortage of bus drivers and Falcon Ridge is no different. We are short one bus driver this year and have consolidated the four routes into three.
In the event that one of our three drivers needs to be out, we will need to cancel a route for that day. If we need to cancel a bus, you will receive a text and/or email as soon as we receive notification from the bus company. Please be prepared to make other arrangements if this occurs. If the bus driver is sick, the notice may come as late as the school morning.
Please have an emergency contact available who can transport your children if you are unavailable.

Before School Procedure
Self-Screening: If a student or staff member has any of the following symptoms, it indicates a possible illness that puts them at risk of spreading illness to others.
Symptoms requiring a student or staff member to stay home
A temperature of 100.0 degrees F or higher. Students and staff need to be fever free without the use of fever reducing medication for at least 24 hours before attending school.
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Sore throat with a fever greater than 100.0°. If they are diagnosed with Strep throat, then they should stay home until they have been on antibiotics for 24 hours.
Excessive coughing, which could include a cough that is prolonged, lasting more than a few weeks; any shortness of breath; difficulty breathing or wheezing; cough associated with fever, chills, sweating, or ill appearance; chest pain or painful cough; coughing up phlegm that is green, yellow, blood-stained, or foul smelling.
Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis). Keep the child home until a doctor has given the OK to return to school. Pink eye is highly contagious and in most cases is caused by a virus, which will not respond to an antibiotic. Bacterial conjunctivitis will require an antibiotic; your doctor will be able to determine if this is the case.
Other symptoms where students or staff members may need to stay at home
New uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty breathing or for students with chronic allergic/asthmatic cough, a change in their cough from baseline
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Nausea
New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever
Parents and staff are expected to review these symptoms daily. It is up to the individual parent and staff member to determine if a person needs to stay home.
