A Message From BCE PE:
Hello Bear Creek Families!
Tuesday's PE class will end the City of Austin Public Works Safe Routes to School Program virtual lessons on safety. A correction from past newsletters - Texas Safe Routes to School Program (not Austin) sent all of the goodies for last week's bike and walk to school week.
This week we will wrap up our throwing and catching Unit and begin our Fitness Unit. Part of our Fitness Unit includes FitnessGram Assessments for 3rd-5th grade students.
All 3rd - 12th grade students enrolled in a PE or PE substitution are assessed using the Fitnessgram assessment. This assessment includes a variety of health-related physical fitness tests that measure aerobic capacity, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition. Scores from these assessments are compared to Healthy Fitness Zone® standards to determine students' overall physical fitness and suggest areas for improvement when appropriate. Fitnessgram scores should NEVER be used as a grade for students. For better results and safety, students should wear proper attire such as athletic shorts, a t-shirt, socks and running shoes during the assessments.
In AISD parents have access to their child's information via the AISD Parent Cloud.
Click on the BCE FitnessGram Website button below for more information on FitnessGram.
SKILLS UNIT: THROWING AND CATCHING
The Learning Goal for our throwing and catching unit is to practice a variety of ways to move a ball to another location or person. The skills in this unit include, rolling, underhand tossing, overhand throwing, and catching.
In this unit, students will learn the basics of throwing and catching a ball. They will practice both underhand rolling and underhand tossing.
