Was your child recently absent?

If your child was recently absent due to illness, please submit a doctor's note from the doctor's office for the date of absence. Handwritten notes are accepted, but unexcused. You can either submit the hard copy of the doctor's note to your child's teacher, or you can email our attendance clerk Mrs. Paragulla at Jenny.Paragulla@houstonisd.org

Progress Report Cards

On Friday, September 22, 2023, your child will bring home their first progress report for the school year. Please review it and talk to your child about academic expectations. By now, your child should be bringing home homework, daily agenda and a communication
"Wednesday Folder" each week. Only students in 1st - 5th grade receive grades. Students in PK - Kinder receive progress notes. If you do not receive your child's progress report, please contact our school at 713-924-1870. If your child is failing, open house is scheduled for September 27, 2023 at 5pm. That is a great opportunity for parents to talk to the teacher about the student's progress and make adjustments before the report card.

How to Contact Your Child's Teacher

Here is a directory of all Carrillo staff members. Email is the best form of communication. As always, you can call 713-924-1870 to leave your child's teacher a message.

Cafeteria Money

Your child is able to purchase a cookie, chips or an ice cream with their lunch for $2. However, we are noticing some of our students are bringing large cash amounts, and then misplacing or losing it before lunchtime. Perhaps it falls out of their pocket during recess, or they drop it on the floor because they never put it inside their backpack. Either way, we have no control over the cash that students bring to school. We do our best to control and manage situations as best we can. For example, it is extremely difficult to find the owner of a $5 bill that is found on the playground after several classes have already been outside. To avoid this, I recommend that you add money to your child's account online instead. Click here for instructions.

Parent Volunteers Needed!

Parent volunteers are always needed at Carrillo Elementary School. Whether you volunteer to be a door greeter, a field trip chaperone or a book fair helper, all volunteers make a difference.

If you are interested in volunteering at any time during the school year, you must complete the following steps each school year. (So, if you did this last year, you will need to do it again.)

1. Click here to complete a VIPS orientation course.

2. Once completed, you will have a VIPS certificate.

3. Continue to the next steps of completing your English or Spanish application from that same website (This is required for your background check. This may take 24–48 hours.)

4. Once you are APPROVED, you will receive an approval email from donotreply@raptortech.com regarding your approved status.

5. Please forward this email AND the VIPS certificate (two items!) to klopez3@houstonisd.org, so I can add you to the list of approved volunteers. Without the TWO items, you will not be allowed to volunteer at any school event/activity during the 2023 - 2024 school year.
