Principal's Message
Dear Hallinan Families,
It filled my heart with joy to see so many students and families at Smart Start and Meet and Greet this afternoon. I loved seeing your smiling faces and hearing about your summer experiences. You all seem to echo my excitement for the start of school next week.
Our theme this year is Heart of Hallinan. And the creative Setter family dropped by today to update our display cases before the start of school. I've posted photos below.
Amazing Things Happen at Hallinan every day and I can't wait for your family to experience Hallinan with us this year. Join me in counting down the hours - see you Monday!

Arrival and Dismissal Information
Arrival for K-5:
School begins at 8:20 am and students will be allowed in the building at 8:10 am.
To ensure everyone's safety, please do not arrive at Hallinan prior to 8 am as student supervision is not available. Our staff will be outside at 8 am to welcome students and assist them out of vehicles. Students should remain in their vehicle until a staff member is present.
Car riders will exit their vehicle on the passenger side. Parents must remain in vehicles.
K-3 students will wait at the front entrance until the 8:10 am bell; 4-5 students will wait undercover until the 8:10 am bell.
Students arriving after the 8:20 am bell must check-in in the office.
Arrival for Pre-K:
School begins at 9 am.
- Pre-K students should be escorted by families to their exterior classroom door.
- Students arriving after 9:10 am must enter through the main doors and check in with office staff. Staff will escort them to their classroom.
Dismissal for K-5:
School ends at 2:40 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and at 2 pm on Thursday.
We have several options for dismissal - car rider pick-up, walker pick up, bikers, Champions after care and bus rider pick up. Please make sure your child knows their go home plan each day.
Car riders: Car riders will meet their families in front of the main entrance. Families will queue up around the circle. To move the pick up line in an efficient manner, please post a sign in your front passenger window with your child’s full name and grade, this will help us locate them and help them to your car. Families must remain in their car and students must enter the vehicle from the right passenger side. Students must be able to buckle their own seatbelt. If your child needs assistance, please park your car and meet them in the walker pick-up area.
Walkers: Teachers will drop students off at the undercover area by the playground - please meet them there.
Bikers: Will walk their bikes to the undercover area.
Champions After Care: Teachers will drop students off in the Gym.
Bus riders: Teachers will walk bus riders to their bus. Please make sure students know their bus number and bus stop number. You can find all that information HERE. Transportation is currently finalizing bus stops - we'll let you know as soon as they are completed.
The cul-de-sac by the playground is not a designated drop off and pick up area. The entire cul-de-sac is designated by the city as a no-parking zone to ensure that emergency vehicles are able to access the school if necessary. If you choose to meet your child at the undercover area, please park on the street (not in the cul de sac) and walk up.
Dismissal for Pre-K:
School ends at 3 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and at 2:30 pm on Thursday. Please pick up your students at their exterior classroom doors.
Smart Start
Thank you for participating in Smart Start. We hope your student and you feel welcome and prepared to start the school year.
Thank you to all who participated in Smart Start 2022. It was a wonderful opportunity specifically for our students with 504s and IEPs, and their parents/guardians, to make introductions with their teachers.
Smart Start is hosted every year, and feedback about your experience is very helpful for planning the event. Please share your input in the follow-up survey -- your responses are appreciated by Tuesday, Sept. 6. Smart Start 2022 Survey
PTO Information
Hello Hallinan Families!
Slices Of Gratitude
Without our volunteer heroes, there wouldn't be plants in the garden or school supplies in our classrooms! We wanted to extend our thanks to everyone who came out to our Spruce-Up Party. You all made a huge difference in the way our kids will feel as they head into those front doors! And thank you to all the families who spent hot summer nights giving our vegetable and flower garden extra water and tending to all the other needs in that incredible space. A special thanks to our garden committee chair Britt Marra. If you see Britt around you tell her thanks for continuing to help us over the summer, even stopping by to water the front of the school on hot days.
Get Involved!
We need help! We have numerous open committee positions for this upcoming year. You can find a Sign-up Genius with the available positions and a little information about each here:
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090c4aa9ae2aa3f49-hallinan38
Please reach out to our PTO Volunteer Coordinator, Rachel Beeson (hallinan.volunteer@gmail.com) with any questions.
First Day of School!
The PTO will have a table set up at the front entrance of the school on the first day. We will have COFFEE! Please stop by to say hello, to learn more about how you can get involved, or to sign up for any open positions. The more you put in, the more you will get out!
And, we will remind you again but our first PTO meeting is on September 29th from 6:30-7:30. More details coming soon!

Please register by September 10th, 2022 to secure your seat! First come, first serve.

Set Up Meal Accounts, Applications
The universal free meals waiver with USDA expired on June 30, 2022. That means starting this school year LOSD will be serving meals under the free, reduced, and paid categories.
Please be sure to set up your student's meal account or apply for free/reduced meals. Look for Meals under Find it Fast on district and school website homepages for account setup and application information, and more.
Be Ready to Ride the Bus
Student Transportation of America provides bus transportation for LOSD. Our bus drivers look forward to getting to know your child and being a part of their amazing school experience.
Students who live further than 1 mile away from their resident elementary school and 1.5 miles away from their resident middle or high school are eligible for transportation services. However, service is typically provided closer to avoid crossing major thoroughfares.
Bus registration is not necessary. Access points -- or what most call bus stops -- will be available by mid-August. Look for an email from LOSD notifying you when access points are posted under Transportation on the district and school websites.
Help prepare your child to ride the bus. Select the access point(s) that work best for your family.
Visit your access point before school starts to familiarize your child with their stop.
Look for visual clues to help identify when it’s their time to get off the bus.
Kindergarteners need an adult to greet them off the bus. Bus drivers are obligated to return unattended kindergarteners to school for safekeeping. Please be sure to be at your child’s stop ahead of time to help keep the bus moving for all onboard.
Champions is Hiring
We are excited to have Champions Learning Program joining the Hallinan family, partnering with us to operate their Before and After School Program in our school. The enrollment, thus far, is more than double what was anticipated, so Champions is still needing to hire SEVERAL more staff members to ensure all enrolled families can be supported.
They have added large Cash Commitment Bonuses for staff hired between now and the start of school. In addition, they will provide 2 weeks of free tuition to a Champions family, for any referral hired. They even are offering donations to the Charity of your choice if you refer someone who is hired on to the Champions Team.
If you, or someone you know, loves connecting with children, this is a great Part Time Job with Full Time Benefits. Think about who you would recommend and trust with your own children - they might be the perfect person interested in working a few hours a day.
For more details on the above incentives, or to apply or send a referral, please reach out to the Area Manager, Stephanie Scanlon at stephanie.scanlon@discoverchampions.com
