This weekly SMORE newsletter is the primary way that we are sending information to families. We wanted you to have a publication that you could read and then refer back to throughout the week. Virtual Edmond families, this newsletter is also for you. Your families are always invited to participate in Heritage activities because you are Heroes too! 🚘Drop-off Procedures

Enter the campus from Sorghum Mill Road. Follow the road until your car is at the front entrance. Drop-off for students will begin @8:50a.m. School Begins at 9:20a.m.

A staff member will be on duty until 9:15 A.M. to greet students. Students need to be inside the school building by 9:15a.m., so that they are inside the classroom by 9:20 when school starts. Children should exit cars on the right side of the car only and enter the school via the front doors. Please pull all the way forward to the next available numbered sign; this will allow 6-8 cars to unload at once. Please note there is a blind spot as cars come around the corner of the SW pod.

** Parents MUST stay in your car. We will have teachers who will assist your students into the building and to then to their classrooms.

** Please note we are flexiable with this on bad weather days.

NEW** Car Rider Plus Dismissal System

🚘Pick-up Procedures

•••Parents MUST stay in your cars at all times.•••

Please enter the campus using the west entrance via Sorghum Mill Road.

Follow the road all the way around so that you drive past the front door. As you enter, a staff member will type your number in a key pad and that number will flash on the classroom smart board in the school. Your students will then exit out the building and to your car.

•We will NOT have Walk-up/pick- up this year.

•We WILL have neighborhood pick-up for Twin Bridges. Students will walk with a teacher for that.

Thank you for your patience with after school pick-up. It is always longer the first few days of school because many families like to come to school and pick up their students. Next week, most will ride buses. We are also learning to operate the Car Rider Plus system and have changed locations and procedures for students who are car riders. After a little practice we will be back down to our normal 15-20 minutes. Thank you again for your wonderful support. We are so grateful to have you as partners.

This year we have a NEW dismissal system called Car-Rider Plus through School SafeID. Each family should have received a 2 visor tags and a number for each of your students to wear on his/her backpack.

If you DID NOT get to pick up your car rider tags on Wednesday, August 19th or receive them on the first day of school. Please contact the front office 405-349-2921

🏫 School Procedures:

If you are wondering how lunchtime, recess, clubs, PTO meetings and more will work, please refer to the Return to School Guidelines. The guidelines are updated as new information about the virus becomes known.

These guidelines are very informative! Please take the time to read.

During a normal school year, it takes time for students and staff to settle into a routine. During a pandemic, when nearly every school procedure has changed, it undoubtedly will take even longer for everyone to feel comfortable with the new plans, practices and systems. However, if this pandemic has taught us anything, it has taught us that it is possible to be flexible, adaptable, and calm even in the midst of tremendous uncertainty.

Mask Guidelines

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has released a clarification on the level of protection provided by face shields (versus the more widely used face masks) with the following warning: “CDC does not recommend use of face shields for normal everyday activities or as a substitute for cloth face coverings.”

For this reason, students (PK-12) and teachers attending Edmond Public Schools will be required to wear cloth face masks when entering the building and moving through the hallways.

The mask requirement also extends to all school facilities, grounds, and classrooms for teachers and students in grades 1-12. Students will be asked to wear masks as they line up for class, or when entering and exiting the building during arrival and dismissal. From time to time, teachers will also be providing brief mask “breaks” for students. Students are not required to wear masks on the playgrounds during recess as long as they can practice social distancing. If you haven’t done so already, it’s a good idea to practice having your child wear a mask around the house so they become used to it.

Face shields may be appropriate and used sparingly in some situations such as when an elementary teacher or language specialist is delivering instruction from a small table or desk where seeing the face of the student is crucial. Additionally, face shields may be appropriate for special needs students as prescribed in an IEP.

Vistors to Heritage

Non-essential visitors in the school setting will be discouraged during the period of time that COVID-19 remains active in the community. On the occasions that guests and parents entry into the school is deemed appropriate, they will be expected to check-in through the school’s screening protocol, which may include a brief questionnaire as well as a temperature check. All guests who enter the building, after completing a temperature check, must wear a mask in all areas of the building. As always, all guests must scan their Driver’s License prior to entering the school building.

Welcome Back Heritage Heroes

Big picture

Hello Heritage Families,

On behalf of the Heritage Elementary PTO, welcome to our school! As we begin this school year in such unchartered territory, we want you to know that the most important thing is your family’s health and well-being. Our school’s leadership and staff are diligently working to make this transition back to school as seamless as possible for both students and

Now more than ever, we need YOU, to participate in our efforts to stand in the gap to support our amazing school family!

Traditionally, our school year is packed full of events and fundraising opportunities that give back to our students exponentially. Due to current circumstances, we are restricted as to how we carry on those opportunities. You can rest assured our team of officers and our amazing PTO are working through how to plan those events!

We want our school family to continue to have meaningful experiences. We also want to continue to provide amazing educational opportunities in the classroom for our students.

Our volunteers are essential to our school family and we will be communicating on how you can serve the needs of our teachers and students.

Monthly meetings will be held virtually until further notice. Those times and online platforms will be posted.

Again, thank you for supporting Heritage PTO

Edmond Public Schools Launches Mobile App to Keep Community Informed and Involved!

Edmond Public Schools has launched an official mobile app designed to enable parents, staff, and students to stay informed and up-to-date on important issues, information, and activities underway within the school community. The free app is available for download in the Apple and Android app stores by searching for Edmond Public Schools.

The app features push notifications so that users may be notified about important events, announcements, and news in real-time such as bus delays. Users have the ability to choose which of the district’s schools they would like to follow, making their app experience personal and school-specific.

Key features include:

· Push messaging from both the district and school sites

· News

· Google Calendars

· Online grade book and attendance

· Lunch Menus

· Athletic Information

· Language Translations

The mobile app replaces the district's previous app, SchoolWay, which abruptly ceased operations last summer. The app was developed in cooperation with Intrado, provider of School Messenger solutions.
