Lunch Bunch

5th & 6th grade on Wednesday and Friday can get an Emoji pass from Mrs. Dettmering during lunch and come to the library after they have eaten.


7th & 8th grade on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday can get an Emoji pass from Mrs. Dettmering during lunch and come to the library after they have eaten.

Garland County Library Speaks...

Brittany Chavez spoke with 7th and 8th-grade students about the multitude of resources available through GCL. Students learned about Novelist, Brainfuse, Pronunciator and many other great apps linked to their website. Mrs. Chavez told of the spooky writing contest, book club, and Halloween Party that are quickly approaching.

Eighth grade students recently read The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton. Several of those students made an 80% or higher on their test, so they were rewarded by viewing the movie in the Library Media Center. Students enjoyed popcorn and snacks as they watched.

GCL Spooky Story Contest

Ages 12-18 only!

Teens must submit an original spooky story to the library to enter the contest. Stories must be typed in 12 point Times New Roman font. Stories must be no more than 10 pages long. Stories must be free of foul language and inappropriate situations. Stories that fail to follow these guidelines will not be entered into the contest.

*All stories must be submitted via e-mail to bchavez@gclibrary.com by close of business (8:00 p.m.) on Thursday, October 26th to be entered into the contest. Late entries will not be accepted.


Winners will be announced on Monday, October 30th @ 10 a.m.

Prizes include:

1st place: $25 Wal-Mart Gift Card

2nd place: $15 Wal-Mart Gift Card

3rd place: $10 Wal-Mart Gift Card
