Tutoring Opportunities
We are inching toward Fall Break, but before we know it, the semester will be ending and 1st semester grades will be finalized. This is the time to be proactive and address any learning struggles in classes! Within our school and our community, there are many resources available for tutoring to help your student succeed in class. Here are a few of the ways students can receive additional support through tutoring:
-
Teacher Assistance: Students should ask their teachers for individualized tutoring help before or after school. Appointments can be made to meet with their teachers from 7:45-8:10 am and from 3:15-3:35 pm.
-
Homework Lunch: This opportunity is provided every day in the Student Center. Students may bring their lunches with them, find a comfortable spot to eat and study, and work quietly with their peers or with some assistance from the teachers monitoring Homework Lunch.
-
Peer Tutoring: Arrangements can be made for free tutoring with a student from the National Honor Society; please contact Dionne Liebl at dionneliebl@dcsok.org to work on matching the student to a peer tutor.
-
Free Tutoring through the Metropolitan Library System: If your student has a library card, sign up for HelpNow online tutoring through this tutoring website by plugging in your library card account information. If you or your student do not have a card for the Metropolitan Library, this link will take you to the spot you need to sign up for a card to begin using it immediately, or you may visit any Metropolitan Library to obtain a library card in person.
-
Math Tutors for Hire: Click here to access a list compiled by our counselors of paid math tutors; several of the tutors on the list are current or retired math teachers.

Sophomore PreACT
DCHS will be giving the PreACT to all sophomores at the end of October in the PAAC gym. Due to the size of the sophomore class, we will divide the students and give the exam on two days, Thursday, October 26 and Friday, October 27. Students will be divided by English teacher. Students with Gena Beeson, Kristen Fitzgibbon, Rebecca Johnson, and Nicole Keeter for English II will test on Thursday, October 26. Students with Melanie McIntosh and Brian Reid for English II will test on Friday, October 27. The exam will begin on both days at 8:15 am. Students need to arrive by 8:00 am to find their seats. Students need to bring an ID, a calculator, and snacks/drinks for the breaks. Cell phones, smart watches, and other electronic devices are prohibited during the exam. The exam is not required, so students that are ill or involved in another activity will not get a make-up exam. Students will be released to return to class at approximately 11:00. Please contact Mrs. Robin Beam with any questions.

Deer Creek Communication Platform
Deer Creek School District is embarking on a new communication platform to include a Deer Creek App that is designed to enable parents, staff and students to stay informed and up-to-date on events, important issues, general information, emergency notifications and site based activities. The Deer Creek App will work conjointly with the SchoolMessenger App (registration only required one time) as a notification system. Once a parent has registered with the SchoolMessenger App, they will only need to use the Deer Creek App for all things Deer Creek!
