HILL HAPPENINGS - January 11, 2016

The Little School with a Big Heart

Happy Monday! The "snow" day was surely a surprise. I hope that everyone enjoys their day at home! This week will kick off the testing window for STAR Math and DRA. I am really anxious to see the growth that students have made this year. I know how hard everyone has been working. Our parapros began the DIBELS assessment last week and I really liked what I was hearing!

The Watch DOG program has launched and is in full swing. Thank you to Dave and Lisa for their leadership with this program and for all of the support. Things seems to be running smoothly. A soft launch will be planned before Spring Break for dads that weren't able to attend. We will hold a dads and doughnuts meeting in our gym. I'll let you know once a date has been set.

There seems to be conversation regarding NWEA, possibly replacing M-STEP in the future. At our next principals' meeting, Verle Gilbert will be talking to principals about how the pilot has went at Hahn thus far. I will certainly keep you posted. I also have some literature about NWEA if anyone would like to take a look at it.

I've included 2 articles that I'd really like for you to take a look at. One article on word study and the other about number talks, which should be a nice intro prior to our early release PD on Wednesday. Both I think are worthwhile reads and a direction we will be heading.

See everyone Tuesday!

A Little bit of PD....

It's All About The Code

If you didn't have a chance to view the parody that Gates' Staff put on, here it is: http://www.nfhsnetwork.com/events/davison-high-school-davison-mi/5bae397c18

I'm sure the kids would enjoy it too!

Hill Celebrations and Announcements

Welcome Zachary Smith, who will be a student intern with Lisa DuPrey this semester. Additionally Sydney Wheeler, will be completing observation hours in Suzie Richards room and Alyssa Fielder will be in Leisa Robertson's room. Please join me in welcoming these incoming teachers into our school family!

Happy Birthday - Birthday wishes go out to Wanda Mitchell! (1/17)

Special Announcements - Congratulations to Pat Locke and Michelle Thompson. Pat and Michelle will be retiring at the end of the school year.
