Schools Are Open Today!
The Buildings & Grounds crew were here 100% of the week, making sure the buildings were warm and ready for us to return today. If you see one of the team, give them a high-5 or a hug! We couldn't do what we do without them.
Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR)
Out with the old, in with the new... because PARCC was sooooo last year!
What you need to know…
The Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) has replaced PARCC as our state accountability assessment
For the 18-19 school year the assessment will be VERY similar to PARCC.
Test administrators will still use the Pearson Access Next (PAN) site to administer IAR
Students will take IAR on the TestNav app
Test content will be the same as PARCC
IAR will continue to use 100% PARCC content and forms built to the standard of the PARCC assessments, so the accommodations that were available last year, will be available for the spring 2019 administration. We will still be entering our accommodations in PowerSchool
The test is SHORTER! View the Schedule of Units and Testing Times here
Math Grades 3-8 has eliminated 60 minutes per grade level
ELA Grade 3 has eliminated 75 minutes per grade level
ELA Grades 4-8 has eliminated 90 minutes per grade level
District 34 will be administering IAR in the window of April 2-April 26. Stay tuned for more details as the window gets closer!
All pre-K - 8 certified staff: log into the District Intranet, go to Registration under Professional Development, select your grade-level band and press Apply. There's something for everyone! Please carefully review the details included for your session as it provides such information as the location, topic, documents, etc.
A few specific notes:
- K-5 Writing Workshop Participants: Complete the pre-session survey linked in the registration form. This survey is designed to provide feedback and information to help support effective professional learning. A post-session survey will be administered as well.
- K-5 Writing Workshop Cohort Members: You have been pre-registered for your session. However, please also go to the Intranet, select the Writing Cohort option and complete the session pre-survey. Note that since you already are registered, the session(s) are posted as “Closed.”
- K-5 Fine Arts and Physical Education: You will use a note-taking document during your sessions; you can find it in the registration form. Please make a copy of the note-taking document for your use and share this version with Matt Silverman.
Please complete the registration process by Friday, February 1. We all look forward to a great day of learning, curriculum development and instructional growth.
3rd-7th Grade Math Student Performance Rating Scale Data
It is time to enter Student Performance Rating Scale data so we can begin the process of placing students in math for next school year. Click to see how to enter the Rating Scale data in PowerSchool.
As a reminder, please enter student performance rating scale data for ALL students in grades 3-7 by February 11. This should be completed by each student’s math teacher (not homeroom teacher unless it is the same person).
ADDITIONAL THINGS TO KNOW
You are welcome to discuss and share your ratings with students and parents. You may also use it during conferences or for classroom goal-setting with students. You could even have students use it as a self assessment. Find printable copies here. If a student’s rating scale was already completed due to being provisionally placed, you may keep the rating as it is or adjust it based on possible changes that may have occurred since November when it was originally filled out.
Thank you for your work with our students! Please reach out to Jenny Bergeron if you have any questions or need support you in any way. If you are new to D34 this year and not sure what to do, contact Jenny Bergeron with any questions on math placements. Our placement information is on the District website.

Be A Better Healthcare Consumer
The Blue Access for Members portal can help you be a better healthcare consumer - and get more bang for your buck!
If you need a medical service, and are covered through our District’s Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois Medical plan, you have access to a cost-estimator tool within the Blue Access for Members (BAM) portal. It will allow you to review costs for any procedure or prescription drug when using an in-network provider/facility. You will see cost estimates for several different providers based on your search criteria. Watch this quick demo of the tool and try it for yourself through the BAM portal.
Costs for medical services vary based off of where you go for care. It can be confusing to know where to go to meet your health needs with many different options of facilities. If you’re trying to decide where to go -- doctor’s office, retail clinic, urgent care or emergency room -- this flier provides information on the different options including accessibility, expense, and which one you should consider based on your health needs.
If you have any questions, please contact Benefits Manager Kellee Janus (847-998-5065).

If you will attend, please fill out this form - you are welcome to purchase tickets for family or friends.
