The Monthly Hive
Seward Elementary School Newsletter
Welcome back! A message from Mrs. O'Donnell
It has been a great first few weeks here at the Hive. We first want to thank all of our families for being understanding to our new safety procedures. Starting with dropping students off in the morning, as well as waiting in the corridor to pick up, has been a great way to keep all of our little Stingers safe. We also have been continuously checking doors and hallways to make sure everything is locked at all times.
Getting into classrooms is my favorite part of the day. It has been wonderful to watch all the great things your Stingers are working on. This month, our PBIS focus is on Respect and Kindness. Our teachers are on the hunt for the student who is demonstrating these traits. The student who is demonstrating these traits best will be awarded with the PBIS, (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) award of the month. Beginning in October, we will be having a morning meeting announcing the Seward Stinger of the month as well as the PBIS trait of the month. If your child has won an award, we will be inviting two family members to come watch the small ceremony. This will be about a 5-10 minute morning meeting.
Community Action Programs (CAP), will be partnering with The Citizen and the Rotary Club again this year to bring, "Warm The Children" back to Auburn. This program provides warm coats to those in need between the ages of 0-14. If you would like to register please reach out to Ms Stevens in the main office so she can add you to our list. The deadline to register for this incredible opportunity is September 30.
The Seward PTA will be hosting a clothing order! Be on the look out for an order form coming home with your child. We will also be posting the order on social media.
Speaking of the PTA, are you interested in joining? Contact our main office to find out how!
Thank you for allowing all of the staff here to help your Stinger grow their brain. We love what we do everyday and are excited to watch your child learn and grow.
We hope you enjoy the start to fall!

Around the Hive
Here are some awesome things that have been happening around the Hive:
In Kindergarten the Stingers just finished learning about their first Super Kid, Cass and are now on to Oswald. They are also using math manipulatives to make tens!
In first grade our Stingers were very excited to see that the Super Kids grew up just as they did. They are learning classroom routines and expectations. In math we have been working on adding and subtracting within 10. It has been a great start growing our brains!
In second grade our Stingers started their math workshop and it has been going great!
In third grade our Stingers have already started learning multiplication and division. They have studied important math terms like repeated addition, array, product, and factor. They are also working on becoming better readers and writers. We are reviewing our vowel sounds and have written our first friendly letter!
In fourth grade our Stingers have been focusing on learning and diving into Science!
In fifth grade our Stingers just finished their personal narratives. It has been fun getting to know one another.
In sixth grade our Stingers have been practicing being independent thinkers. They are learning how to be responsible and transition to new classrooms.
In our 12:1 rooms they are focusing on their money skills. They even started a coffee cart where they are selling fresh coffee and pastries to our staff.
Coaches Corner, Laura Falzarano - ELA Instructional Coach:
We have been so busy testing our little Stingers to see exactly what their specific needs are. We are using this data to help drive our instruction and make informative decisions for our Extended Learning Time.
