What is a Title 1 school?
Title 1 is a federally funded program that allows eligible schools to improve academic achievement and to help ensure that all children get a high quality education. A school can become a Title 1 school when 40% or more of its students receive free or reduced lunches. A team of teachers review the schools strengths and weaknesses, creating what is called the School Improvement Plan. This plan outlines goals for the following school year. There are benefits to being a Title 1 school. Title 1 schools can offer many more resources to each student. Some of these resources are additional teachers and support staff, extra materials to support reading and math, tutoring, career and college prep, and much more!
