Conversations About School
When you think of parent involvement, do you picture yourself volunteering in your child's classroom? That's one way to help – but research shows that supporting your child's education at home is even more important. Here are four conversations that will help you stay involved.
"Let's see what you brought home."
Look at completed work to find out what your youngster is learning and how well she's doing. You could comment on her social studies report or pottery project, for instance. ('You know a lot about our state's history!") Also, respond to notes from her teacher, and sign her weekly folder or daily planner if required.
"Show me what you have for homework."
It's your child's job to do her homework, but you play a role, too. Make sure she knows what she's supposed to do by having her explain the assignments to you. After she finishes her homework, glance over the work to see that it's complete.
"Describe a book you enjoyed today."
This gives you an idea of what your youngster prefers to read. Then, build a daily reading habit by asking what she'd like to read tonight. Encourage her reading and listening skills by reading aloud to her and letting her read to you.
"Tell me what you learned that you'd like to know more about."
Use her interests as jumping-off points for activities to share. If she likes geometry, you might draw different shapes together. If she's fascinated by how animals adapt to winter, take her to the library to research the subject or to the zoo to see live animals.
Safety Drills
We practice several kinds of safety drills at Tiffany Ridge on a regular basis. This week we practiced our fire drill procedures. Students did a great job of following the procedures for this types of emergency. Other types of drills we will be practicing throughout the school year are those for severe weather, lockdowns, earthquakes, and bus evacuations. Each type of drill addresses various safety scenarios. Staff members are trained to follow a specific procedure for each type of drill, while remaining calm and positive during our drills in order to minimize student worries or anxieties. Our ultimate hope is to never implement these procedures!
Park Hill Redistricting Overview
In preparation for the opening of Hopewell Elementary and Walden Middle School for the 2019-2020 school year, and in order to balance our very different high school enrollments, we will be redistricting all of our attendance boundaries, from elementary through high school. Redistricting will help us continue to be one of the best districts around by protecting our low class sizes and making sure we can balance our resources.
The redistricting committee meetings will be open to the public, if you want to observe them. We will also host public input meetings and provide an online feedback tool to get your thoughts on the committee's ideas before the Board sets the new attendance areas. Watch for more information about those opportunities later in the fall. The Board plans to make its decision in December.
Visitor Information:
We listened to your ideas for safety, and we incorporated them into our improvements. Park Hill is installing video doorbells at all school entrances, so visitors must get buzzed in. All visitors will need proper identification to enter Tiffany Ridge. The district is also upgrading the safety of other doors and the visitor management system. All doors at Tiffany Ridge will remain locked at all times.

All people visiting Tiffany Ridge will need to have their identification each time they enter our school. Please be sure to have this with you as this is an important component of our improved safety procedures.
