A NOTE FROM PRINCIPAL SCRIVO
Scotch Elementary School has led the way with Capturing Kids’ HeartsⓇ in the West Bloomfield School District, and has the distinct honor of being the first public elementary school in the state of Michigan to receive this prestigious award. Capturing Kids’ Hearts is a process that builds and strengthens relationships with students. This process provides a consistent framework throughout the school where all teachers and students feel a connection with one another, creating a sense family. This year we were tasked with producing a video that shows Capturing Kids' Hearts in action. The video that follows is a small part of what goes on here at Scotch on a daily basis. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it! I am truly proud of our staff and students for what they do on a daily basis to make Scotch the place that it has become.
Scotch Elementary School 2018 - 2019 School Improvement Goals:
- 60% of students will meet or exceed their projected growth in reading and math based on NWEA MAP by June 20, 2019
- 90% of students will be proficient in informational writing.
- 100% of staff and students will implement and carry out Capturing Kids' Hearts with consistency and fidelity.

5TH GRADE FUNDRAISER LITTLE CAESAR PIZZA KITS
Our annual 5th grade fundraiser ordering has ended. Thank you in advance to all those parents that helped us to offset the cost of sending our students to camp. It’s a wonderful adventure with memories that will last a lifetime.
Please put Tuesday, March 19th on your calendars to remind yourself of our delivery date. Pickup will be at Scotch School in the gymnasium/cafeteria. Pick up your pizza kits as soon as possible. We will not be responsible for any kits remaining as we do not have storage onsite for them. They will be donated to the local food bank if not picked up by 6:30PM. Remember, if the products thaw, they can be refrozen once.
Please feel free to call Jen Amato at (248) 249-8038, or email at amato.jen@gmail.com with any questions.

MUSIC AT SCOTCH - 3RD GRADE!
Greetings! We have a concert in March for all of the 3rd graders. In coordination with the social studies curriculum, we will be presenting a show entitled, “Right Here in Michigan.” It will feature music about Michigan and music from Michigan musicians and artists. Our concert will be on Wednesday, March 27, at 6:00 p.m. right here at Scotch School. More details will follow, but please reserve the time and date.
I am also beginning to create a music video for the concert and I would like to include photos of the students, “Right Here in Michigan.” If you have a digital photo of your child some place identifiable in Michigan (Fox Theater, the Henry Ford, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Comerica Park, Michigan Adventure, Auto Show), or even doing something we typically do in Michigan like shoveling snow, skiing, water activities, etc., please send me a copy at the address below. Thanks so much for your help,
Carl Battishill, Scotch Music Teacher (carl.battishill@wbsd.org)
ATTENDANCE
Call the Scotch Safeline at 248-865-3282 by 9:30AM if you know that your child will be late or absent from school. If you have not called the safeline by 9:30AM, you will be automatically notified via phone/email that your student is absent from school. Your student's absence will be unexcused unless we receive a phone call within 24 hours.

SPRING PICTURE DAY
A big thank you goes to Heather Donnelly for helping us with Spring Picture Day!
PHOTOS NEEDED FOR YEARBOOK!
We are in need of photos for the yearbook. If you have any photos you would like to share and be included in the yearbook please email them to Brooke Kelso at brookejkelso@gmail.com
- Photos should be group photos of students from class parties, school events, etc., please try to stay away from individual shots (1 or 2 students), since the layout space is very limited.
- If possible, please identify who is in the picture when submitting photos (Grade & Teacher).
- Photos should be in color. Photos can be sent in .jpg format.
- The deadline to submit photos to the yearbook staff is on or before Monday, April 8th.
WE NEED USED PRINTER CARTRIDGES
Donate and recycle your printer cartridges by dropping them off at the Scotch front office. Feel free to drop them off anytime of the day, or have your student just bring them to school.
