2023 SCSD First Day of School
The first day of school was a perfect Midwestern day to start off the school year! Ok...so it was pretty darn muggy out there, but that didn't prevent our students and staff from sharing smiles, giving hugs and welcoming each other back to our schools. So glad to have our buildings full again. Thank you to our students, staff, parents and community members who helped make the first day AMAZING!
Hardin teacher named Mo. Teacher of the year semifinalist
Congratulations to Hardin Middle School band instructor Jeffrey Collier on being named a 2024 Missouri Teacher of the Year semifinalist! The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) announced in August the 17 Regional Teachers of the Year who were selected as semi-finalists for the 2024 Missouri Teacher of the Year award.
Great job Mr. Collier!

SCW ALUM DUNCAN EARNS GIRL SCOUT GOLD AWARD
Congratulations to 2023 SCW graduate Laraya Duncan on earning the Girl Scout Gold Award! After recognizing the decline in the bat population in Missouri, Duncan decided to educate the community on this often-overlooked topic to earn the Girl Scout Gold Award. She constructed seven bat houses using donated materials to provide a safe environment for the species to raise their young. Once the bat houses were complete, Duncan installed five houses at two Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri camp properties and placed the other two at a neighbor’s farm.
Duncan also created a brochure and a flyer on the importance of bat housing and the adverse effects pesticides can have on animals. Duncan placed the literature at all three camp properties so fellow Girl Scouts can access the information. Duncan also met with a younger Girl Scout troop to present the bat houses and share her knowledge of bats. Girl Scout camp rangers will maintain Duncan’s bat houses in the future.
We're so proud of Laraya's accomplishment and her dedication to improving our world!

Monroe Elementary Renovation
The 2nd part of the Monroe Elementary renovation is complete! The school looks absolutely amazing after 2 summers of construction! Thank you to all our contractors, techs, custodians, maintenance workers, teachers and admin who made this all possible. It's a great time to be a Mustang! Both renovation projects were part of Prop SCSD, a no tax-rate increase bond issue passed in April of 2021. Thank you to our SCSD community for supporting our schools, we truly appreciate you!

SCSD PBIS Training
For the 2023-24 school year, SCSD will be implementing District-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). PBIS is a framework for supporting students’ behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health. We've already seen the success of PBIS in our pilot schools and are so excited to spread it across the district.
It's going to BE a great year!
Monroe students lead school in PBIS bootcamp
Our smaller learners loved seeing their examples and did a great job respecting the big kids! Students are already reaching for the stars earning PBIS tickets and Positive Office Referrals by following the school-wide rules and expectations in each area!
