Introduction

What is hail? Hail is frozen pieces of ice falling from clouds. It a very dangerous form of weather.

Description of Disaster

Hail forms when thunderstorm updrafts are strong enough to carry water droplets well above the freezing level. This freezing process forms a hailstone, which can grow as additional water freezes onto it. Eventually, the hailstone becomes too heavy for the updrafts to support it and it falls to the ground.

How it relates to Meteorology

Warning signs

To be aware if hail is going to happen, look for giant cumulonimbus clouds. don’t look for it to get dark when hail is frozen pieces of ice falling from clouds. It a very dangerous form of weather.

Action Plan

  • Put your cars in the garage
  • Stay inside, away from all the windows
  • If you're driving at the time, find a safe place to stop your car

Where does it happened the most?

They occur the most more in Southern and central plain states like Texas Oklahoma, Nebraska Colorado and Kansas.
