Discrimination had been in Americana[ for years. From whether its from the color of your skin to woman rights to people with disabilities, but it has changed America. The civil rights movement was one of the acts that changed America for the better, this movement was to stop all racialism for black. Back in the day black skinned people were told what to do. What to eat, the places they couldn't go and before even had a group that terrorized them.

Martin luther king jr was a man that knew it wasn't right and did something about it. Instead of fighting and anger, he spoke with passion about his feeling. He inspired people with "I have a dream" in this speak he says " I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal." and that was drive that strike peoples hearts and lead to a court which insisted to pass where discrimination against black is wrong.

In the book she has two kids and doesn't want to go on welfare, she wants to support her kids but when you have kids at Jolly's age its every hard to do that, you didn't finish school and can't keep a job. Like many woman around the world hats what they want a way to support their kids without worry. Jolly had the help of a daycare to help her while she is in school many women dint have at and sometimes in third world countries get and have kids at a very early age to many people were in Jolly's position so she wouldn't be alone in this
