CDS Middle School
Weekly Newsletter
March 1, 2020
From the Director
Dear CDS Families,
Thank you for your patience and understanding during our first week of school closure. This week our faculty stayed on campus and worked hard to create distance learning plans, discover new e-learning tools, and communicate with students about their assignments and projects. Although CDS teachers are no longer in the building, we will continue to be available online during regular school hours to answer questions and provide support.
Real-time Google Meet classes will begin on Thursday, March 5th and will continue for the time being. Students will receive links via Google Classrooms to join classes online. As we finish Term 3 and head into Term 4, students will be moving from class to class digitally on a shortened schedule. Attendance will be monitored (determined by students' engagement in class activities), so it is critical that students are present and active in virtual spaces at the designated times.
Students who have left Korea and are currently in other countries are expected to follow through with the learning outlined by their teachers in their respective distance learning plans. Students who've left Korea should reach out to their teachers individually and make arrangements if they are unable to attend real-time virtual classes due to time differences.
A highlight at CDS Middle School this week was our first virtual House on Friday. This provided all of us with practice holding real time meetings using Google Meet. Teachers were so happy to see students' faces and talk with them about how they're getting along at home---not just in terms of academics, but also in terms of their social and emotional wellbeing. We know it's not easy to be cooped up at home all day with no face-to-face contact with classmates. In the weeks ahead, we will continue to hold virtual House at designated times to support student well-being during this challenging period. Students-----please make sure to take periodic breaks from screens this week. Also, try to get some exercise each day and maintain a healthy diet and sleep cycle.
I hope everyone is staying healthy and safe. We all greatly miss the students and look forward to seeing you digitally later this week and physically in the near future when we return!
Best regards,
Mr. Scoville
Director of Middle School

Message from MS Newsletter 2.25.2020
Dear CDS Families / MS 학부모님께,
CDS Middle School is committed to ensuring that learning continues during this unfortunate period of school closure. With this goal in mind, CDS teachers have outlined what students are expected to learn and accomplish from home in each of their classes each day. Teachers will be checking email and Google Classrooms several times each day in order to respond to inquiries. Students are encouraged to reach out at any time if they have questions.

Staying healthy is of paramount importance. We strongly recommend that students do not meet in physical spaces to collaborate at work; instead we encourage students to make use of Google tools to collaborate in virtual spaces. We encourage students to avoid gatherings of any kind - social or otherwise - during this critical period.
If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me, or your child’s teachers at any time.
온라인 학습과 관련하여 궁금한 점이 있으시면 Mr. Scoville또는 자녀분의 교사에게 직접 연락해주시기 바랍니다.
Best regards,
Mr. Scoville
