QUESTIONS about Bus Assignments?
Bus assignments for students who rode last year are the same. For new bus requests, you should have received an email with your bus assignment including the bus number and the time for pick up and drop off. Ms. Lenore and Coach Ken will be working together this year to make sure you have what you need.
Preschool Pick Up and Drop Off Changes
After Care ~Asheville Primary
We will have an after care option funded by the 21 Century Community Learning Grant on our campus. It will operate Monday through Thursday 2:30-5:30. SPACE IS VERY LIMITED DUE TO STAFFING and TRANSPORTATION IS NOT PROVIDED AT THIS TIME. Staff will be calling/emailing all families on our wait list in order as space is available. If you would like to have your name added to this list, please call Lenore Luster in our front office to add your name to the list. Please understand that until your name is called, you will need to have a plan for after care or transportation for your child.
Ms. Kayli will be our site coordinator for this program and she will be contacting families with details as your space is available.
This program will not operate on half days or staff workdays.
Montessori PreK After Care will start on Wednesday, August 25th. The after care will run from 2:30-4:30 for now and will also be Monday through Thursday for now. As soon as we are able to hire a dedicated staff member for that program, we will lengthen the time/day. In the meantime, we will have our instructional assistants rotate through and cover the program. If you have any questions, please call the front office and ask for Polly or Tima.
If your child goes to another after care program in the community, you will need to fill out a bus request form if you need transportation to that program. Until an assignment is made, you will need to make sure you have other arrangements for transportation.
If you are in need of after care and want to know the options, please call Lenore or Polly at 350-2900 to inquire and have your name added to the wait list.
Please remember that all after care options are subject to changes due to the pandemic. Please always have a back up plan for your child's after care.

COVID SAFETY UPDATES
Covid Protocols continue to change as our community needs change. Please refer to the tool kits below to find the latest information and explanations of safety protocols. Our district uses these tool kits to help develop safety protocols for our schools. (Please remember that all the board meeting videos are available on our district website.)
A few notes from the latest board meeting:
- Masks on buses (Federal mandate) and inside, no masks outside
- Social distancing still in place
- Self-screen--don't come to school with Covid symptoms, call your administrator to self-report
- No visitors or volunteers on campus (even on the first day of school)
- Field trips and Events limited to outside, small groups
- Not using water fountains, please send water bottle with student
- School age students can bring a backpack with only needed supplies
Daily cleaning protocols will remain in place at APS. We also will continue to use only filtered water for drinking and HEPA air purifiers in classrooms. Our classes will continue to pod, but with 3-4 classes in a pod instead of two. This will continue to allow for more distancing on the play structures and at lunch. Lunch will be in our classrooms or outside, weather permitting.

NEED SUPPORT?
828-350-2922
We need GREAT people!
Asheville City Schools has several instructional assistant vacancies at the elementary level for the 2021-2022 school year. Visit https://www.applitrack.com/asheville/onlineapp/default.aspx for details.
These positions are full time positions with benefits (i.e. state retirement, sick days, paid time off, health insurance, and access to supplemental insurance). The best part is you have the opportunity to have a positive impact on children every day.
We are still in need of the following positions:
- academic support assistants
- cafeteria workers
- instructional assistants
- school library/media digital lead teacher
Many schools across our district are struggling with finding new staff to fill positions and we are no exception. Until those positions are filled, please allow grace to our staff as we all fill in to make sure that everything is taken care of for our students. Thank you!
