Jan. 21-25, 2019
Math
Tuesday, the students will learn how to multiply with multiples of 10. Wednesday, we will find out how to multiply a 2 digit by 1 digit number. Thursday, our Math lesson will center around solving two step word problems. Friday, we'll begin a new unit - Finding the Area. We'll begin by finding the area of plane shapes.
Reading
Tuesday, we will discuss how we can use information gained from nonfiction text features to help us make predictions. Wednesday, we'll begin a new unit - main idea & details. The students will begin with a pretest. Thursday, I will introduce how to identify the topic, main idea, and supporting details within a passage. Friday, the students will practice looking in the first & last sentence of a paragraph to pick out the main idea.
Writing & Spelling
Tuesday, we will outline an opinion paragraph on the topic - Should kids get extra recess? Wednesday, we'll take a look at some opinion pieces and discuss what is included in each one. Thursday, the students will practice writing their opinion on a topic and then choose 3 reasons that support their opinion. Friday, they'll begin adding facts to support each of their reasons.
In Spelling, we will cover blends (cl- & str-), digraphs (-th & -tch), and compound words.
Science
Tuesday, the students will use their genotype data to create a baby flower to match it. Wednesday & Thursday, the students will be walking through the steps of the Scientific Method to help them determine the genotype & phenotype of 3 generations of plants.
Social Studies
Friday, we'll begin a new unit in Social Studies - Missouri History. We'll begin with a gallery walk where the students will ask questions about significant people & events in Missouri's history.
