Student Free Day Tomorrow!

Friday, November 20th will be a Student Free Day at SOAR High School. College classes are still in session Friday, plus Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Thanksgiving Week

The week of November 23rd - 27th are non-high school days. However, the college is still in session on Monday - Wednesday of that week. (Dr. Herrera mentions only Monday and Tuesday in her video, but it is Wednesday as well for AVC classes!). Please make it a priority to attend your AVC classes.

So Very Thankful at SOAR

As we head into Thanksgiving break, we would love to highlight your expressions of gratitude for the SOAR Community. Please take a few minutes to share what you are thankful for in your SOAR Community. You are free to express thankfulness for your family, friends, pets, teachers, or staff. Your submission will be included in a presentation to be shared with the entire SOAR Community. Please submit no later than Monday, November 23rd.

SOAR Office Hours during Thanksgiving Week

The SOAR High School office will be closed the week of Thanksgiving. If you need anything, please email Mrs. Andrews at or Ms. Schaeffer at OR text/call: 661-429-0522.

College Book Drop-off

College book return dates will be December 3rd and December 7th, from 8:30-4:00. Students will drive up and drop off books outside the cafeteria near the SSV building. If any student cannot make those times, please email to schedule a time.

Webstore Now Available

The SOAR webstore is now available to purchase items. You can purchase your yearbook or your Amiibo cards from the Game Club.

Here is how to activate your account..... go to and follow the directions under the orange ball that says "Create Account". Be sure to use your HIGH SCHOOL email address.

Meal Services

The AVUHSD Food Service Team is pleased to announce Saturday meal distribution at all eight comprehensive high schools. Each Friday, Food Services will provide all eligible persons 18 years and younger two meal kits that will include Saturday’s lunch, as well as Monday’s breakfast. Daily meal service takes place from 11:00 to 1:00 Monday through Friday.

Support College-Going Wednesdays and Spirit Fridays!

Support College-Going Wednesdays and Spirit Fridays by wearing a college t-shirt on Wednesdays and either school colors (burgundy and grey) or class colors (9th - Burgundy, 10th - White, 11th - Grey, or 12th - Black) on Fridays!!

JUST NEW, the 1st Wednesdays of the month will be dedicated to supporting Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) -- please show college spirit by wearing an HBCU t-shirt!

Computer Mice and Headsets Available!

We have additional computer mice and headsets available at no cost to our students with the intention of providing more tools to improve SOAR students' learning environments. Please stop by the office anytime between the hours of 8am and 3pm, Monday - Thursday to take advantage of these giveaways!

Maintaining our technology, especially when it is such a necessity, should be a top priority!


Attendance has a direct correlation to student success. If you miss a high school class for an excusable reason, parents/guardians must call or email Mrs. Andrews to clear the absence: (661) 722-6509 / and follow up with your teachers for assignments. Students should follow up directly with college instructors in the case of an absence. Although we are not on campus, we are still responsible for record keeping. Please make attending both your high school and college classes a priority!

Holocaust Art Contest

The 7th Annual Holocaust Arts Contest for the 2020-21 school year has kicked off! Front cover winner gets a $100 scholarship and back cover gets $50. All entries become property of the contest (cover art only) and will not be returned to students. For more information, visit the following links:

Tutoring/Additional Supports

Students currently have access to a variety of online tools through their PowerSchool portal. Make sure to click on 'Student Resources' in order to view online textbooks, Homework Help, and much more. Students should look out for virtual tutoring and study session information and opportunities provided by their teacher.

Remember, SOAR students have access to all AVC resources as well. For information on how to get connected with AVC's Learning Center for additional support, visit AVC's website.

Fridays at SOAR

This Friday is a Student Free Day -- Students will not attend high school classes, but if you have a Friday college class, you must attend. These are also published on our online calendar or in the student handbook.

Don't forget to be a STAR!

STARs are self advocates, teachable, accountable, and respectful in the classroom, common areas, community, and connected online.

SOAR Stars are also life-long learners and self-advocates who solve the most pressing challenges through an unwavering pursuit of knowledge, innovation, and collaboration, becoming engaged and productive leaders in their communities.
