A note from the teachers...

Dear Parents,

Please keep in mind all of the important dates we have coming up. Today marks the end of the first 9 weeks. Please note that we will not have school on Monday, October 12th. Also, 3rd Grade Field Day is scheduled for Friday, October 16th. Finally, all classes will be taking District Assessments (DA). Check with your child's teacher for their schedule.

We have planned our Capitol Field Trip!! Please look for a permission slip that has come home today. We are very limited for space on this trip. Room Parents will have first choice for chaperones. If for some reason we need more, your child's teacher will be in contact. Our field trip is scheduled for February 22nd (Ross, Burkingstock, Fladger, and Coy) and February 23rd (Shields and Wilker).

Have a great weekend!!

~Third Grade Teachers

What are we doing next week?

  • Reading – Students will be learning about poetry. They will learn about rhyme, forms, stanza, and lines, while examining a variety of poems.
  • Writing – We will take the next three days to get our opinion pieces ready to be graded. We will also practice writing another strong paragraph focusing on the topic sentence, capitalization, correct punctuation, complete sentences, and using transition words.
  • Word Study/Spelling - Next week students will learn the prefix "in," which means not. We will learn how the prefix changes the meaning of a base word. Tuesday, your child will be given a list with examples of words that contain the prefix "in" to place in their agenda binder. They do not have to learn to spell the words, but should learn the meanings and how to use them correctly. Due to Field Day, our Word Study Quiz on these words will be on Thursday, October 15th.
  • Grammar - Next week we will continue to learn about verbs. We will also study verb tenses.
  • Math – We will finish up our Multiplication and Division Relationships unit. The test will be Thursday. We have other units on multiplication, so please continue practicing multiplication facts at home. Here are a few games they can play for review: Pac-Man Multiplication, Fruit Shoot Multiplication, and Multiplication Picnic.
  • Science - Students will begin our next science unit, rocks and minerals, by learning about properties of minerals. We will have a vocabulary quiz on Tuesday, October 20th. You can use our Quizlet Rocks and Minerals link to study these vocabulary words. The tentative date for the Rocks and Minerals test is Tuesday, October 27th.
