PARENT CONNECT COFFEE
Meet up with other parents to connect and discuss our experiences at Meadows on April 26th, 9am at Sweetwaters Coffee (43346 Grand River Ave, Novi, MI 48375). We'll be at the large table in the back. This is an informal event.
DASH & DINE
Don't Miss Dash & Dine, Wednesday, June 1st
This school community event expands Novi Meadows' 5K with a food truck after party. This event will happen on Wednesday, June 1st. The 5K will begin at 5:30pm and the food truck rally will follow.
Please visit the form below to register and gauge interest for the Novi Meadows 5K, optional boot camp practices led by Mr. Michalski, and food truck after party. This is an outdoor school-wide community event for us to run, cheer each other on, and celebrate the end of the year!
All Novi Meadows staff, students (including virtual 5th and 6th grade) and their families, including siblings and parents, are welcome to participate in the 5K and after party. Only Novi Meadows students may participate in the bootcamps.
Commemorative 5K t-shirts will be available for purchase in the coming weeks. Please watch for more information on t-shirts and event details.

T-shirts for Dash & Dine
5K t-shirts are available for purchase to commemorate this year's Dash & Dine event. A portion of each sale will go back to the Novi Meadows PTO to provide enrichment for students and staff.
Sponsors for Dash & Dine
We are looking for community business sponsors for our 5K event (sponsorships begin at $100). Sponsoring helps to off-set the costs of what the PTO will need to cover and helps us to raise funds for student and school enrichment. When corporate partners sponsor, we will include your logo (size based on sponsorship level) on the back of the 5K t-shirts, and we will list sponsors in our future communication, school flyers, and Facebook group regarding the event.
If you or your company are interested, please reach out to the PTO board at novimeadows.pto@gmail.com
Volunteer for Dash & Dine
In order to make Dash & Dine a success, we will need a lot of volunteers! Check out this sign up genius to see how you can help!

COUNSELORS CORNER
Upcoming Mental Health Activities
We are excited to share that Novi Meadows will be celebrating Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week May 2-6. Each day, students will hear an informational announcement in the morning and there will be activities and giveaways for students to participate in throughout the week. More information will be shared in next week's SMORE. We hope to have strong participation to raise awareness about the importance of mental well being.
Additionally, Novi High School shared an event they are hosting next week on Tuesday, April 26th from 7-8pm in the high school auditorium.
INTRAMURAL SPORTS MONDAYS AFTER SCHOOL
Intramurals will run from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. directly after school on Mondays.
Intramurals are after-school sports for Novi Meadows 5th and 6th graders. Students compete against each other in a sport. There are no established teams, but rather the teams are determined at each session. We stress fair play, good sportsmanship, and teamwork...while having fun learning and playing games with our friends. Students should have appropriate shoes in order to participate.
Please see the attached documents for our FAQ and schedule.
PARENT CONNECT BOOK CLUB DISCUSSION
Novi Meadows will be hosting - a post-event book discussion on Tuesday, May 11th at 6:30pm (location TBD). The book we are reading is "Under Pressure: Confronting the Epidemic of Anxiety and Stress in Girls" by Dr. Lisa Damour. This book is being read in conjunction with the Novi Mental Health Alliance's event.
The Novi Mental Health Alliance is excited to announce Dr. Lisa Damour, New York Times best-selling author, will be speaking to the Novi Community on Tuesday, May 3rd at 7pm. Dr. Damour will be doing a live zoom that the whole community is invited to. You can either watch the virtual event in-person at the Novi Middle School Auditorium OR you can get a zoom link to watch from home. You can register for the community discussion on May 3rd at the following link - https://novilibrary.evanced.info/signup/EventDetails?eventid=23965
If you would like to hear more about Dr. Lisa Damour has an excellent parenting podcast called Ask Lisa: the Psychology of Parenting.

NO GO GREEN GALA
We are only a week away from our No Go Green Gala! We humbly ask you to support our students by bidding on auction items and making donations the weekend of April 22-24. Our list of online auction items will be available to view by next Wednesday, April 20.
Proceeds will support students and teachers in the Novi Community School District by providing classroom grants, district-wide programs, and student scholarships. Teachers have ideas that need to turn into reality. Students deserve additional learning opportunities.

THIS WEEKS VIP
KEEPING A FOCUS ON RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY AND A SENSE OF COMMUNITY
We are trying to focus on the positive things our 6th grade students are doing here at Novi Meadows.
When we see students making responsible choices, doing the right thing, and giving back to their school and peers, we pass out a VIP ticket to share our appreciation.
All VIP tickets go in a weekly drawing for an opportunity to eat lunch in the VIP Cafe.
Once a week, a VIP winner is announced and that student’s entire lunch table gets to eat in the VIP Cafe for a day.
We hope our students are enjoying this as much as we are! We are so proud of these students and the positive impact they are making at Novi Meadows.
To the left is this weeks winner Ellyianna. Congratulations, Ellyianna!

ABSENT HOMEWORK
Novi Meadows Parents:
When students are absent, teachers will do their best to fill them in on the work they miss. Teachers utilize a variety of tools to keep students up to date on work (Schoology, Google Classroom, on-line planners, etc.). It is not feasible to have absent students Zoom into classes that are happening at school. In addition, teachers are not able to privately Zoom with students who are absent to reteach the lessons. Teachers will provide the work that can be replicated to students upon their return. It is not always possible to recreate classroom discussion or activities
