Setting goals in the new year in 4th grade!
Dear TES Families,
Happy New Year, and welcome back from winter break!
Included in this newsletter is information about upcoming events and some very important reminders for our families. As we continue to carefully monitor and make plans in response to the pandemic and its affects on our community, the most important ways you can help our school and our community is by completing your children's health screener every day by 8:00 AM, keeping your children home if they are ill, and informing the school of health concerns with your children or in the home.
We appreciate your open communication and true partnership during these unprecedented times!
With great gratitude,
Katie Lemerich
Principal
Important Health Reminders from Mrs. Page
Exclusion from School
While you continue to complete a health screener for your child daily that is specific to COVID-19, please know that regular illness exclusion guidelines apply. For the health and safety of our school, if your child has a fever of 100.4 within the past 24 hours without the use of medicine, was vomiting or had diarrhea in the past 24 hours, has chills, has a sore throat, has a bad cold, has conjunctivitis, has difficult or noisy breathing, has strep throat (must have been taking an antibiotic for at least 24 hours before returning to school), or has a new rash, please keep them home for the day, even if they are able to pass the COVID-19 health screener.
Staying Healthy
In addition, a few things you can do to help keep your child's environment as healthy as possible:
Remind your child of the importance of good hand washing and social distancing - they are our best defense.
Healthy eating and plenty of sleep are even more important during this time.
Please make sure to leave a reason for absence when you call in your student or enter it in Pickup Patrol. This helps us monitor illness in the school.
Make sure your child is up to date on vaccinations including a flu shot. It is not too late.
Flu Vaccine
Winter brings us the cold and viral season. If you have not already received your flu vaccine, it is not too late. Please check with your health care provider or check at the local pharmacy for the flu shot. The vaccine is the best way to prevent the flu.
Free COVID-19 Testing from Hunterdon Cares
Hunterdon Cares is providing at-home COVID-19 saliva tests free of charge to residents of Hunterdon County or those who work in Hunterdon County. These kits are free of charge to Hunterdon County residents or people who work in Hunterdon County. This test is said to be as reliable as the nasal swab and is done through Vault Health. It is not an antibody test. You can request an at-home test kit via the website https://hunterdoncares.org.
You should consult with your healthcare provider and follow up with them regarding your results. Also, some pediatricians’ offices offer the rapid COVID-19 test for their patients, and you may prefer to have your child tested at their office or after consulting with your healthcare provider.
Health-Related Questions/Concerns/Absences
All health-related questions, concerns, or absences for your child should be directed to our school nurse, Mrs. Page, at 908-832-2594 x2011 or gpage@tewksburyschools.org.

Counselor's Corner with Mrs. Donovan
January’s character trait is PERSEVERANCE, working hard despite challenges, opposition and failure. Our teachers and students have been discussing what perseverance looks like and why it is important. We encourage parents to share their own stories of perseverance with your children. They particularly seem to appreciate hearing about the mistakes and missteps of the adults in their life.
Alongside our emphasis on perseverance, we are initiating the LET GROW program here at TES as another opportunity to grow our students' independence, resilience, and ability to persevere. The last weekend of each month every student will be encouraged to “do something on their own for the first time." Parental support of this program is essential. Please read more about it here. Your children can add each activity to a building block, bring them into school, and we will watch our students grow! We also encourage families to post their child's project on our school's community Padlet here. We will be kicking off our Let Grow program the last weekend of January (January 30-31), though know that these activities can be done at any time. For some ideas to get help you think about an activity your child may engage in, take a look at this list. We'll be sending all information home with your child, so they can participate.
