One Body in Christ: Our Spiritual Theme
Call to Family, Community, and Participation
October is here! We continue our study of the seven themes of Catholic Social Teaching this month by focusing on the next theme – the Call to Family, Community, and Participation. This reminds us that each person is social.
Catholic social teaching emerges from the truth of what God has revealed to us about himself. We believe in the triune God whose very nature is communal and social. God the Father sends his only Son Jesus Christ and shares the Holy Spirit as his gift of love. God reveals himself to us as one who is not alone, but rather as one who is relational, one who is Trinity. Therefore, we who are made in God's image share this communal, social nature. We are called to reach out and to build relationships of love and justice.

Spiritual Reflection
By Sheila O’Callaghan
The saints give us great examples of how to pray and love God. October 1, is the memorial of St. Therese of the Child Jesus, also called the “Little Flower.” She became a Carmelite sister. Therese wanted to be a missionary but was not healthy enough to travel. However, she did not let this stop her from loving God. She did the ordinary things of life as well as she could. She also prayed for missionaries every day. In this way, she grew close to God.
October 4, is the memorial of St. Francis of Assisi. He was a great lover of the earth and all the creatures on it. He lived as poor as the poor can be. Wherever Francis went, he asked nothing for himself. He worked for the poor. Francis showed that being close to God can be very simple. There is a beautiful reading from Micah - it tells us how to pray and “walk humbly” with God. Micah 6:6-8
The feast of Our Lady of the Rosary falls on October 7. You should try to pray the Rosary on October 7, and many times during the month of October and always.
Remember, we are called to pray and love God simply through our love and kindness for others.
Please pray for the sick, especially Fr. Mink, Fr. Jasper’s Mom, Yil Remo Vallejo (husband of Mrs. Vallejo), and all the sick of our parish. Pray for those who have died, especially Kenneth Stanley, brother of Jim Stanley. Our Armed Forces and First Responders need our prayers. Please pray for them.
We'd like to kick off School Safety Month with a test of our School Messenger system, which provides alerts for delays, early dismissals, closures, and other emergency notices.
SAS will run a test of the emergency notification system at 12 pm on Wednesday, October 5, 2022. Parents and guardians will receive a phone call, e-mail, and a text message (for those who have submitted Student Update Forms, due in early September). If you do not receive this test via all 3 methods of contact, please inform the main office: msaienni@thesaintannschool.org.
