Oak Grove Student Council
The Oak Grove Student Council fundraises throughout the year to help our school and our community. Last year, our fundraising efforts raised $3,000 for the school year. We are hoping to exceed that number this year!
We have partnered again with Maredy Fundraising to offer you a variety of items from the "Cheers to the Holidays Catalog". Each child is receiving a catalog for families to shop from. If you would like to order, please fill in the order form on the back of the catalog and return to your child’s classroom teacher (elementary) or homeroom teacher (junior high) with a check made out to Oak Grove School no later thanFriday, October 13. Orders will be placed as a school and they should arrive in time for pick up before Thanksgiving Break. NOTE: YOU DO NOT NEED TO ADD SALES TAX TO THE ORDER.
We kindly ask that no students go door-to-door to solicit sales. We value the safety of our students. Also, this is not a contest with incentives. We are simply offering the sale to families for our fundraising efforts.
If you have questions, please feel free to contact the Student Council sponsor, Ashley Evans, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 847-367-4120 x2108.
Look for your catalog coming home this week!

8th–grade football music is ready to pick up! See Mr. Jones for your set.
Lastly, there is a TON of music to be learned this fall. Please help your child find the time and place in your home to begin a regular practice routine.
Attention parents: Today is the last day to get your instrument ordered in time for Friday’s delivery!
4th-grade lessons will start next week, Sept 25th. The first lesson will be a very important one, for sure! Please double check the lesson schedule and remind your child which day to come. Instruments will be released to students to be brought home after they have had their first lesson on how to assemble it. We are going to have a blast!
Social Emotional Learning (SEL)
This week our vocabulary words to use at home are perspective (3rd-5th grade) and self-talk, and being "assertive" (Kindergarten-5th grade). In the upper grades, we talked a lot about the student perspective vs friends', teachers' and parents'. We need to try and see things from more than one point of view so we can build positive relationships with mutual respect. In the lower elementary, we focused on self-talk to help us learn and wait! Being assertive is calmly and respectfully advocating for oneself! Be sure to check and 'like' your child's ClassDojo comments and pictures! They love when they see their parent's name with a 'like' next to the post!
Have a great week! BE ASSERTIVE! IF YOU DON'T GET IT, JUST ASK FOR HELP OUT LOUD!
Heinen’s Grocery in Lake Bluff will donate up to 1% of purchases by Oak Grove participants, back to the PTO. It's easy to participate. Just sign up for their preferred card and enroll in the Tasteful Rewards program. This can be done in store or online at heinens.com. You then select Oak Grove School PTO as your school for donation. Then make sure you use your rewards card every time you shop. Please note, you need to reselect the school every year, so make sure the next time you are in, go to the customer service counter and reselect Oak Grove.
Dear parents and guardians of 8th grade students,
At OGS, we are always looking for ways to utilize community resources to better the health and well-being of our students. A year ago, in collaboration with the Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center, Libertyville was awarded a grant to develop a coalition specific to keep our youth healthy. After looking at our Illinois Youth Survey data and discussing potential areas of focus, the now-named Libertyville Connect coalition decided to move forward with a campaign to provide parents with tips on how to talk to their kids about staying healthy and safe, focusing first on increasing awareness about underage drinking.
Oftentimes, when the issue of teens and alcohol arises, some assume underage drinking to be a rite of passage. However, advances in adolescent neuroscience since the 1990s confirm the damage alcohol has on the developing teen brain. The goal is to bring this important discussion into a conversation about health & wellness, rather than regarding it solely in a moral frame of reference.
You'll be seeing messages in the Oak Grove News (and ePawPrints if you have a LHS student) about this important topic. Here is the first issue of Lake County Health Department (LCHD) Digital Connect. Questions specific to the campaign can be directed to Rachel Mintle, MPH, at the Lake County Health Department, email@example.com.
