Technology Integration Ideas to Make Your Life Easier
Email/Share with Your Students
Students in grades 9-12 have email accounts and most of them are not using them! This is a great way for you to communicate with your students. If we set the expectation that we are going to send emails then they will start checking them. In college and in the work force these students will have to know how to check email and respond in a professional manner. What better way to help prepare them for the real world then to have them apply it in high school.
Students in grades 3-8 have OneDrive accounts. You can share content and documents with your students in your OneDrive. This is a great way to have students practice accessing resources and to provide them with the information you want them to have. OneNote is a great way to put extra handouts, links, and extra resources in one place for them to access.
Get Parents Involved
Class Dojo is a great way for teachers to communicate with parents about behavior and what is going on in class. This is also a fabulous classroom management tool to motivate students to make the right decisions. (I even used this when I taught 7th grade so don't think it is just for elementary) This product allows you to enter your kids and give points or take away points based on categories that you can create. Also you can add pictures or short videos to your students story to keep a running record of what students are accomplishing in your class. This is on the computer or an app on your phone or ipad. It is so easy to use and the students love earning dojo points. Parents can sign up and they receive an email every week letting them know their child's progress.
Let me know if you are interested in using Class Dojo. I would love to meet with you about it.
Start Small
Sometimes technology can be overwhelming. It doesn't always work and you don't always have enough of it. Start where you are comfortable! There is something for everyone. One easy tool that only requires one device (teacher device) is Plickers. Plickers is an easy to use assessment tool in which you print cards for each of your students and these cards have A, B, C, D on them. The students hold up the cards where the correct answers is at the top and the teacher uses their device to scan the room and it instantly picks up the students answers. You can give immediate feedback without have to grade their papers. Easy to use and easy to set up. If you are interested and need some help I would be more than happy to show you how to use Plickers with your class.
Teacher Shout Out!!!
Very exciting news!!! Mrs. Jamie Casteel has been chosen for the 2016-17 Blended Learning Cohort which means that her class will be piloting some new technology programs throughout the year. It also means that she has been awarded a CLASS SET OF CLOUDBOOK DEVICES!!!! We are very excited and proud of Mrs. Casteel and we know we will see great things!
Tech Tool Highlight-Microsoft Forms
Microsoft Forms is a new part of Office 365 Education that allows teachers or students to easily and quickly create custom surveys, quizzes, questionnaires, registrations and more. Form authors can invite others to complete forms, which they can do using any web browser, even on mobile devices. During this session, participants will learn how to create forms and share them with their students to assess the content they have presented in class.
