The elevation of Phoenix is 1,058 feet above sea level and situated on flat desert land. It is at the northern edge of the Sonoran Desert. Phoenix is a valley surrounded by many mountains such as, the Phoenix Mountain Preserve and lakes. It also has its own mountain range that runs right through the city. The sun shines approximately 325 days per year making Phoenix one of the sunniest cities in the country. Winter days are warm, ranging from the mid-50s to the 70s. Phoenix is very hot, so there is very little days that drop below freezing; approximately only one. Phoenix gets very little precipitation only about 8.3” a year. Phoenix has a three month monsoon season which is from July to mid-September. Phoenix's monsoons result from, humid air that comes in from the Gulf of California.
