Maureen M. Welch Elementary School
Home of Kit Kat, the Wildcat
Dear Maureen M. Welch Families,
Students have created Power Point presentations, posters, and Flip Grids. The library has hosted a large number of resources and books available to students. Students have been reading a variety of text, from stories to poetry. One grade level has researched 25 different famous Americans for their inventions and contributions to the sciences and arts. Our second graders have been weaving paper kente in art class.
We are always keen on learning from each other and to promote an understanding of different cultures and backgrounds. Please contact your child's teacher if there are artifacts or photos your child would like to share with their class.
Warm regards,
Rebecca Grimm, Principal

The week of February 25th through March 1st, the PTO is sponsoring a school wide fundraiser, Read-A-Thon. We are promoting a love of reading while raising funds for playground equipment.
It is as easy as registering on the Read-A-Thon link and collecting donations. Since it is all online, donations are made as a flat amount. Students will be logging all of their reading minutes, with opportunities to read at school. A flyer will be coming home on Tuesday, February 19th explaining more about how to register.
Classes with the most reading minutes will be earning prizes. Our fun will culminate in a celebration assembly. Rumor has it there will be a Silly String Competition! We hope you support our fundraiser and provide opportunities for reading at home.
Maureen M. Welch Elementary Diversity Committee
The committee has been meeting monthly to support our goal. Some of the activities sponsored by this committee includes:
* the Heritage Tailgate,
* additional visual displays in the school,
* student survey and
* the Wish Them Well Fundraiser.
Now moving into the new year, the morning announcements will be highlighting celebrations from other countries. These will be coordinated with major holidays celebrated in these countries. In addition, we are looking to kick off one more event in the spring.
If you are interested in helping with our spring event, (to be determined) or would be willing to paint or stencil the boys room stall with affirmations, please contact your parent liaison, Dr. Meshagae Hunte-Brown at meshagae@yahoo.com. All help is appreciated!
The Wizard of Oz Musical comes to MMW
Families and friends are invited at 7:00 PM in the cafetorium. The event is FREE, with a free will donation encouraged to help offset the cost of the scripts and music purchased by the PTO. Snacks will be available for purchase.
