John Dewey Academy of Learning *Feb 26 - March 2, 2018
A LETTER TO OUR 11TH GRADE STUDENTS
Dear 11th grade students,
I know you are a bit nervous about the tests this week. I know you wish you had more time to prepare. But, you are ready. You have spent the past six weeks meeting with advisors to learn specific tips and techniques for each subject area, but you have also been preparing for these tests since your first day as a project-based learner at John Dewey Academy of Learning.
The work you do for each of your projects helps you develop critical thinking skills and creativity. It helps you learn how to be a better problem-solver. It helps you learn how to persevere when the learning is difficult, and it helps you retain the important information longer.
Research suggests that as a project-based learner, you are more likely to correctly answer the difficult questions on standardized tests than a non-PBL learner. While you have been designing your own learning opportunities and presenting your information to authentic audiences, you have also been preparing for rocking these standardized tests.
Yes, this test is important, but I don't want you to worry about it. I know you will show up on Tuesday ready to do your best, and I know you will do well. You got this.
We believe in you,
Jen + the JDAL Staff
