Knock Out Scleroderma

Benefit For Abby Castillo

Big image
In August of 2013, Abigail Castillo was diagnosed with Scleroderma. Many people may ask what is Scleroderma, so here is a quick definition of the disease: Scleroderma, or systemic sclerosis, is a chronic connective tissue disease generally classified as one of the autoimmune rheumatic diseases. In other words, this causes the outside skin to tighten and in very rare cases it affects the connective tissue of the internal organs as well. Abby happens to be one of these rare case. The biggest impact this disease has had is on her lungs. She is now limited to the amount of physical activity she can do and her new best friend is an oxygen tank. She was recently informed that she will need a lung transplant due to the spreading of nodules on her lower lungs(this makes it very difficult for her to breathe). But as fast as she found out she will need the transplant, she was also told that she would be needing it before the end of this year (yes,2015).

On the journey to getting her new set of lungs, she will require MANY doctor visits to make sure her body is ready to accept the new lungs. Many of these appointments will be out of Waco so there will be a lot of traveling and lodging expenses, on top of the growing medical expenses. We do not ask for sympathy or pity, but do ask for support and encouragement throughout the journey she will soon face. It has definitely been a roller coaster for us all but with love and support from our family and friends, we know that anything is possible. We appreciate any donation and are very thankful for having your support!
